Holloway's record on youth development

I get the point mate and at times realism has to set in, that I understand but if you have low targets and standards then you wont go anywhere.

I do realize we are miles away from the Premiership and with some decent relegated clubs to come down it will be even more difficult to get out of this league but I still am certain the best way to achieve success will be to buy players like Oakley, Howard etc as opposed to fielding a team full of the likes of Logan, Levi, Sheehan, Weso and the like although as I have said many times before, Weso may be quality in the future and Sheehan also possesses some ability,

Let me think how many youngsters we had against Coventry:- Alnwick, Stearman, Mattock and Laczko plus Weso, and Fryatt on the bench. And Coventry hardly got a kick.

Point taken and post changed. I always thought he was younger. Frightening that anyone can run so fast and for so long at that age. Must use the gym more than Lisa. :D

Fez is in love with James Chambers, he'll probably tell you his birthdate and first pet if you ask him to.

Your best bet to find that out is QPR, they're the ones with the best academy out of his past clubs. Plymouth have brought a few through, but mainly signings from other clubs IE. Gosling from Torquay and Norris from Bolton.

He was plucked from Sunday league by us (Boston)

Nielsen, Keabi, Ferreira and Djiziri.

But why the hell our own young players should be shunted out on loan to allow some perfectly ordinary foreigners like the four I mentioned to fill their shoes, I cannot understand for one minute.

Those 4 players managed about 160 minutes of senior play between them. What's your point?

Ive never said a team of quality youngsters couldn't win matches, Im not Alan Hansen lol but from the names you mentioned above only 3 of the six came through our ranks and as we speak Stearman is not a fans favourite and we are trying to sign a new right-back despite having about 8 on our books, Weso cant get in the first team and we are almost sending him furher down the pecking order with Osbournes arrival and Mattock`s position has already been threatened this season with Clarke and maybe he wouldn't be playing had he not had his health problems.

My point is our kids are OK but all you need to do is see the likes of Laczko to realize what real quality is.

Mattock was never threatened by Clarke and never would have been - at least not for more than a few weeks.

Weso's been injured and if anyone thinks he's yesterday's man I'm sure they'll soon be proved mistaken. A lot of grown men wouldn't have recovered their first team place at all after two broken legs while in their teens and I'm optimistic, if people don't rush him back from any future injury, that he'll soon be back to his best.

As for Stearman, he's already clocked up 100 matches for all sorts of managers and I'm quite sure the current one is fairly well comforted by our having the second best defensive record in the League.

Finally Laczko's played 52 matches in four years. His last club showed no great inclination to retain him even though they'd only just signed him, for whatever reason. With that sort of working background he might find life harder in the Championship - and he's already fighting off an injury after week one.

I dearly hope he proves the real thing - Lord knows we've waited long enough. But I wouldn't go making assumptions at this stage. Ryan Smith looked brilliant in his first half game at Derby.

Im not for writing off our youngsters but unlike you fella, I don't build them up so much that its almost impossible for them to be as good as you say they are. We have heard about the likes of Dodds, Sheehan and the rest until we are Blue in the face (nice pun as we all are lol) but the fact is none of them will probably command a first team place if Ollie grabs a few more players this window, maybe with Mattock being the exception.

Lets hope the likes of Weso does come good but it doesnt look to good when RB`s are played ahead of him in midfield and now we have signed Oakley and Osbourne is on his way on loan and Kavanagh was strongly linked. Maybe he will have to go out on loan.

Osbourne doesn't look like he's coming, Kavanagh is heading past it and hasn't been mentioned for ages? And do you seriously think Kavanagh is a better bet than King at this stage of his career?

Don't forget we're talking a bench place anyway. And I still fail to see, considering all the statistics, how Mattock rates a better bet than Sheehan. I really haven't seen it. Mattock is a forceful player and a competent full-back.

But once he tries to attack he doesn't quite have the pace yet to be particularly effective nor does he have the accuracy and range that Sheehan has to make up for it. They're both good prospects.

Yes have every faith in Stearman, Wesolowski, Sheehan, Mattock, King and Gradel. All six could be significant assets to this club and I don't see the point in any having their careers held back by fast-ageing has-beens like Kavanagh.

That's not to disagree with someone like Fez who thinks we should always look out for better. Quite the opposite. Or to say they should have an automatic first team place.

But I don't have the faith in old men that you seem to have just because opportunity needs to be found to give these lads the last level of experience they need.

Oakley is an exception as an experienced player. Terrific signing. Clemence will probably turn out good value and I think that N'Gotty has done a reasonable job although I'm not sure he's been worth his reputed wages.

It remains to be seen how good those six young players become as a result of experience but I've certainly made no claims about that and if all choose to pretend I have there's nothing I can be done it. All I've said is that they were good enough for the team they came into, or, in Gradel's case, didn't come into.

However I do get sick of this idea that rent-a-crowd and buying in is inevitably better.

In fact it's been disappointing for far too long. Emphatically so.

I'm 100% sure that will improve under Holloway/Penrice, as already seems to have been demonstrated, but then it's difficult to imagine it being worse as I am sure MM is appreciating right now as he continues to pick up the tab for a few relatively recent signings who will never be much use to us.

I understand that but you've got GeoV referring to these "if, but and maybe" signings which haven't materialised and you've got a whole raft of speculative shit in Transfer Talk, much of it lifted from places that probably won't have noted that Keegan's joined Newcastle yet.

The only players I really want to hear about are those who've signed on the dotted line. You can stick your pluck-it-from-the-bucket stories about Rivaldo, Kavanagh and Old Father Tyme getting a spell here.
