Meat Loaf

I recently downloaded a video from Meat Loaf - Bat Out Of Hell- I was a little disappointed as I thought it was one of his concerts but it was from the TV series Classic Albumns. Nether the less it is interesting.

Originally Meat Loaf and Jim Steiman came from theatrical backgrounds and they just decided to put together Bat Out Of Hell. Producers would not touch it for over a year saying the music was for the stage not on a record then they found Todd Rudgren who liked it. Then they had to find a record company. Now its one of the all time biggest sellers and regarded as a classic. Its hard to pick a favourite track as they are all good in my opinion, just depends on the mood.

At one point he was doing concerts five/six nights a week and was close to collapse through exhaustion.

When the albumn did come out it was the beginning of the punk/disco era so Meat Loaf was one of the few bands doing rock.

I suppose not everone on here especially the younger ones will appreciate his music but I reckon he has a great voice and puts his heart and soul into the songs.

Not sure if this should go in the Best Album thread. Mods please make an executive decision. Leave or move.

There is no such thing as a classic Meatloaf album. The man is pants. Period.

You are joking. The man is immense, in every way. :D And his stage shows are to be believed. Apart from the last one at the NEC which was cancelled at the last minute to the considerable annoyance of his fans.

Last I heard but his voice might have moved on. :D

lol

I agree with that !!

R.I.P (to his voice that is) to the man that treated metal with respect..... I Think!!! :(

God i hate metal!!!

The big debate.... Meat Loaf taking eating you alive.... Or slipknot dumping in your face???

I am not joking. He is utter shite. In the heady world of rock and roll my opinion counts. So get on message. I've had more pleasure from listening to a bag full of potatoes than anything Meatloaf has ever done. Fat, tuneless, overblown pomposity of the worst order. File under "crap".

:crylaugh: well everyone is entitled to their opinions ;)

"Bat out of Hell" alone has sold over over 30 million copies, and that in itself is quite an achievement for a fat tuneless overblown pile of carp

i do agree that king edwards can very tuneful though; ;) did they cover the "theme from mash"

Sales = nowt in my book. Just goes to prove you can fool all of the people all of the time (except me that is).

I don't get "on message" for anyone. I know what I like and I've liked it for a long time. You're welcome to your spuds. :D

I would have liked to have seen him in concert in Nottingham back in November but lack of transport prevented me. Perhaps , Chris, if you have trasport and I had paid the cost you may have changed your view if you saw him live and the 100% emotion and effort he puts into his performance. But somehow I doubt it. Personally I prefer to see/hear a band that can play musical instruments rather than 'sampling' and all this techno dance stuff or girl pop idol bands. Maybe thats I grew up in the time when bands or groups used to tour in mini vans and perform at small venues instead of doing karaoke style cover versions on third rate talent shows.

With all due respect Ken, you don't need to slag off somebody else's musical preferences to back up your own. ;)

Was not slagging it off, just saying that I was not a fan of it. No different to saying a King Edward potato sang better than a rock singer.

My personal opinion is that 'sampling' is a form of lazy cheating however well and good the results are. And some modern music I find boring and tuneless. But as I said this probably due to me growing up in a different era, a time when my elders used to complain about what I listened to. Times don't change do they? I may not like some music but I will always give credit and appreciate any hard work the artists put in to produce it.

"During a show in Ottawa, Meat Loaf fell off the stage and broke his leg. The injury caused him to cancel the rest of the tour. Unable to handle the pressure, Meat Loaf resorted to cocaine, ultimately culminating in a nervous breakdown where he threatened to commit suicide by jumping off the ledge of a building in New York."
