Ian Posted 16 March 2005 Posted 16 March 2005 Gills vs Ipswich F****t vs Wigan Cardiff vs Crewe Sunderland vs Coventry Rotherham vs QPR You would hope that Ipswich,Wigan,Sunderland and QPR win and that cardiff and Crewe looks likely to be a draw so any points on Friday might be very valuable indeed!! Altough the Hammers are high up there they are struggling at the momment and thepressure is on them so maybe Friday is a good time to play them? WE must also remember that our goal difference is far better than the teams around us and is worth a point! And don't forget we have 2 games in hand so anything from these games is a bonus. We should be focussing on our performances and what we can do to get out of this mess. It really is down to us if we stay in this league not anyone else. Although, I agree we have to focus on our performances, you still need those around you to slip up in order to take the pressure off to a certain extent. Pressure can work both ways - It can either bring out the best or worst of you. I'm not so sure the pressure of relegation will help us personally... If you're more relaxed, then you tend to play more freely. However, we're in a relegation battle, and the pressure is firmly on...

Generally, they beat the weaker sides in this league, but struggle against the top ones. I don't see them making the play-offs for this reason. I can't find one rational reason as for why we might beat them on Friday, except maybe if their crowd turns on them and they get even more edgy than us - they too suffer from the unfeasibly high expectations of their fans. They don't draw many. I'll be surprised if we get anything.

The thing that characterises Wig/Ips/Sund is their ability to totally batter the opposition by 3/4/5+ goals when it suits them.
Scow Posted 16 March 2005 Posted 16 March 2005 It's been noted that the West Ham crowd act as more of a hindrance than a help. If we keep it tight for the first 20 minutes, frustrate them, then we'll be able to use that to our advantage.

Obviously gillingham and forest both picking up unlikely points doesnt boad to well though - The relegation line now stands at 42 pts I believe.. which still puts us 2 pts above the drop zone.. am I right in assuming that we are 17th in the table given today's results? EDIT - we are 17th on 44, with a game in hand over everyone around us and 2 over some aswell. Relegation line is at 41 pts - relegation zone looking like this... 22 Coventry 39 -15 41 23 Nottm Forest 38 -18 38 24 Rotherham 39 -29 25 Doubt it will finish that way though, Id wager Forest will stay up...
