Finnegan Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 Personally I'd ignore DB11 and anyone else that told you to buy a Dell / pre-Packaged piece of crap. I really don't know Leicester as well as I used to, but I imagine there's got to be more privately owned, smaller computing shops around the city staffed by people that know what they're on about. I'd have a pokey about and see what's what, buy something a little bit more "raw", a little more bare-bones but essentially unspoiled. It might sound a bit OTT, but I'd even suggest, depending on your finances / age, a day trip to London and a whiz around Tottenham Court Road is possibly worth it if you want to find the best deal on the best piece of kit. (If you take up this option, Micro Anvika = Sex.) Oh and if it helps; HP Pavilion Dual Core 1.66Ghz, 40gig hard drive, 2gig RAM, 256 graphics cost me about £780 - £820ish last year with windows and word bundled.

And yeah that helps, might stick with Comet/PC World though...someone specific to blame if any problems occur
Finnegan Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 Don't know much about comet but PC World are 'okay.' I very, very nearly bought a laptop in PC World but they were out of stock. So I trundled back down the road to one of the other shops I'd popped in and found this almost identical model. The PC World variant had had a 128 graphics card and was about £20 more expensive, that's about the only difference and kinda highlights what I mean when I say shopping around private places is often worth a go.

Yeah, something I've never really considered...will take that into account. Cheers.
coale39 Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 Thats why ebay shops are the best. Small businesses....
The Reverend Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 I've had my Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M1405 now for over 2 years, and had one problem with it - the charger broke so had to buy a new one. Apart from that, i've had no trouble at all, its done everything asked, i dont really use it for gaming, but have had the latest football manager on it, and i'm pretty sure it only has 1gb of ram. Cost me £400 from a smaller shop. I agree with Coale39 though, i think Ebay is the way forward now.
coale39 Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 Would this be better? And yeah that helps, might stick with Comet/PC World though...someone specific to blame if any problems occur That one you have selected is a good one, but your paying more then you should.
Tilley Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 You probably want 2gb ram, Intel dual core processor and 160gb Hard drive. I built on on dell myself and it's lightening quick.
Finnegan Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 Unless you're downloading a LOT of stuff, there's no way in God's good Earth you "need" a 160gb hard drive.

coale39 Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 Just seen this on PC World advert.Any thoughts? 1. It has a HD DVD drive which has been discontinued.... 2. Its advertises that graphics card as good. Do you need one for FM08? 3. this ones cheaper and has faster processer and an adequate graphics card Edit that last ones sold http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...n%3D4%26ps%3D42
