DB11 Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 I'd get it from Dell. They are very cheap but if you need replacements they cost a lot as Dell make their products unique (you want a new battery - you gotta get it from Dell as they make it so only their products will work) You would do well, for an extra, to get a Laptop Carrier Bag thingy. I have a laptop but I prefer my PC.

Help appreciated. Depends what you will use it for. My laptop is for downloading, surfing the net, watching movies and playing footy manager. I have always stuck with Sony Vaio, they are excellent laptops. Laptops are becoming very cheap in price now a days, hence why most people are ditching the traditional desktop. check this out. Now that is cool for the price!! http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/Sony_VAIO_N...1JS/version.asp Very similar to mine!
Moreton Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 I want one too.Shouldn't have gone on holiday. Bastard money situation grumble grumble. Iv got a Hp G6000 and its pretty good. You want a Laptop with a Fast processor (i would recommend a Intel Core Duo or a AMD Athlon x2) a good make (Toshiba, Hp, Sony etc) Lots of Ram (2GB) A good Graphic Card and a good operating System, i prefer Windows Vista as it looks good and goes pretty fast but only if you have around 2GB of Ram but some people beg to differ. But it depends what you want the laptop for.

DB11 Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Yes that's quite good that. Also, how d'ya get a laptop connected to the internet? Most laptops nowadays (in fact all of them) come with a wireles adapter (I think that's what it is) in them. Just get a router and connect your internet like that and then go on your laptop to the program that's already on there and set the internet up eg. you will search for local devices it will find the name of your router and you select it and then put the password in and tell it to connect automatically. I think
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 Yes that's quite good that. Also, how d'ya get a laptop connected to the internet? It is a piece of cake mate. Like DB11 said, all new laptops are WIFI ready... So all you do, is buy a router, then basically set that router up so it is configured to your broadband modem and your away. You can lay on the sofa, lay in your bed, go in the garden or have a dump while you surf the net!! With no wires!! It is brilliant, i am a bit of a geek when it comes to internet and laptops,
Joe. Posted 11 February 2008 Posted 11 February 2008 You can get a laptop with 2gb RAM and 180 Gb storage space now for about £400. Bargain price. For about half that spec you're looking at £300 ish.

Do you want portability or desk top convenience?
Asha Posted 11 February 2008 Author Posted 11 February 2008 How much are you planning on spending? What will you use it for? Do you want portability or desk top convenience? Would only really be for home usage. Combining the price for laptop, internet connection software and all the extras looking at around £700-£750 Is that reasonable or?

What's home usage? Porn? Office work? Graphics? Gaming? My three machines are based at home but each one carries a different spec from the others. If all you want to do is surf the net and open up word files/PDF's then you'd be a mug to spend more than £400. If you want a hardcore gaming mahine then you are going to have to look at what type of card will best suit your needs based on the games you want to run, the same goes for dedicated design work (although then you will be looking at a Macbook and not a machine running Windows). Before you spend the money, define exactly what you want from it. Buying something just because of a spec that you will neither need or use is something most people get suckered into. I'd say the only thing that is essential is a webcam so that you can send your friends realtime images of you naked...I don't know where I'd be without mine
