Buying a laptop

Like I wanted that thought :(

I would want it for all the word/excel/powerpoint etc, web usage etc.

In terms of gaming probably only the latest FM game each year...but that would be about it...what graphics capabilities would that require?

:dunno:

Hardly any. I think just processer speed increases FM speed.

In which case get something that you think looks nice, cheap or on offer, from PC World...don't worry about the spec and don't let them bullshit you into taking something complex, they will all do you well ;)

Not too up on Macs, looks snazzy though.

Any info on them ?

Don't like them - but I don't like Apple products. Anyone want my iTouch? I'll swap it for something decent of similar value.

if you want reliability and a good spec for little money i would recoment gateway (available through tesco and toys r us) Ive had 4 gateway pc's and 1 gateway laptop. So far the only problems i have had are, touch wood, on one of the pc monitors on/off button popped out and the laptop charger stopped working (quite common on laptops as the wire gets twisted/pulled a lot) I compared like for like specs between gateway and dell....gateway came to £599 and dell came to £1400!

Those were the days. Football stickers. Made £5 on a Manchester United badge once. 'Clocked' the album 5 years in a row. The whole craze thing ended with the scoobie things, they were god awful.

Don't know what crazes have to do with laptops. :D Interesting though, brings back a lot of memories.

Thank God! I've now found an outlet for the three container-loads of acid that I've had in storage for the last seventeen years. I can bring Yu-gi-oh dreams to life...

Am planning on buying a laptop...but not really sure where to start.

Could anyone reccommend which laptop to get and any idea of all the extras I'd need to buy with it.

Help appreciated.

One that works?

My old Toshiba Tecra overheated and started smelling like burnt toast the other day.

But it wasn't toast... it's toasted the graphics card, more like it... :(

Add to that, dont buy HP/Compaq. Mine lasted a year (laptop). It was red hot all the time. I looked at the on board temperature thing and it was around 80'c when just turned on! 100c when loading all the time. I bought some extra fans that sloted on to the bottom of it to cool it down cuz I could tell I wouldnt last long. It had AMD turion x2 processer dunno if that was making it hot. It was fast tho. Yeh, im rambling. Dont get HP/Compaq.

I was seriously considering this to get for my laptop.

1. Is this good laptop to choose?

2. Am i making any obvious mistakes?

With onlt 1gb of ram, I advise against it. What will you use your laptop for? Gaming? or just internet and Word etc?

Erm, well internet and microsoft works programs quite a lot, as well as football manager. Would 1gb of ram not manage this?

Bearing in mind, i would want to get the latest football manager game each year.

In my experience, 2gb of ram really quickens your PC up when your running Vista. If I was buying a laptop, I would prob get this one. Dont

let the fact its a referb put you off.

Ive always found ebay to be the cheapest. I recently bought a new PC for £400 custom off ebay. Fantastic price for what I got.

Yeah going PC World...more reliable. Maybe.

OK, so I'll look for something with 2gb of ram, thanks for the advice mate...I have no idea what I'm doing otherwise.:thumbup::thumbup::cheers:
