Thracian Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 With apologies for any errors in the first half fog. Henderson 5.5 (Some excellent throw outs to Beswick who was quick to find space and one sound catch from a viciously swinging corner but woefully to blame for the Wolves goal). Lee Cox 6 (Not an easy evening against the skillful Wolves number three Daniel Jones but he shared the honours and still found time to support attacks. He was just a bit off with his passing for once). Bruno N'Gotty 7 (Good attitude, always involved, seemed to fit in easily with the young players around him. A bit vulnerable to pace but otherwise totally in control). Lathanial Rowe-Turner 6 (Seems to have benefitted considerably from having N'Gotty around. One excellent recovery tackle after being comprehensively beaten). Ryan Beswick 9 (Barely put a foot wrong. It was a sign of people's regard for his dead ball kicks that he was entrusted with the penalty in such company and he duly despatched it with perfection. Involved with two of City's other goals and was a constant threat to the Wolves rearguard even from full-back). James Wesolowski 9 (Might have been playing in a cup final. His energy, determination and attitude gave stimulous to the whole team. Contested everything, won the penalty for City's fourth goal, supported attacks, tackled, passed, moved and made the strongest statement possible that he's fit and ready to get his first team shirt back). Andy King 7.5 (Another well taken goal, this time from the right wing. Constant threat in and around the box and did much to help City wrest control of midfield). Radostin Kishishev 6.5 (Subbed just after half-time but was competent and enthusiastic). Matty Fryatt 7 (Valuable run out. People have suggested he plays better in a footballing team and, when he's looked fit, that's been the case when I've seen him in the reserves. There was plenty of quality around him today and he was forever a threat in the box and played a full part in maintaining the flow of attacks. Looked thoroughly at home and at ease in the side. No reason he shouldn't feature on the first team bench). Craig King 7 (Good goal, close with another effort and growing in confidence and stength. Promising player and looking much more a team man these days) Zsolt Laczko 6 (Played his part. Linked well enough with Beswick on the left. But short of what I'd expect from a first teamer. Didn't impose himself on the game and make things happen. Never took anyone on or delivered the sort of passes that might change the course of games. Valuable acclimatisation though). subs: Riccy Sappleton 7 (Breathtaking shot for his goal. Close with a second effort from a quality move. Seems cumbersome, awkward and a bit unpredictable with his control but in contrast to Laczko he invariably comes up with something and tonight's something was yet another special goal at a reserves night out) Jorrin John 6 (Only got about 15/20 minutes but played some thoughtful low passes and seems to be finding his feet quite comfortably). Management team: 9 Altogether the game was well worth watching and to a man the City players showed exactly the right attiitude. There were no half-measures, no-one was sauntering around the pitch looking less than committed and some of the football was a joy to watch. The team looked balanced, showed plenty of skill and energy and moved forward and backwards as a unit. No complaints at all.
Matt Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Get some of them in the first team, can't be any worse, and they'll want to prove themselves and play for the shirt. Maybe.
Joe. Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Behold people. We have a new chosen one. He goes by the name Beswick.
Thracian Posted 13 February 2008 Author Posted 13 February 2008 Behold people. We have a new chosen one. He goes by the name Beswick. There's nothing "new" about Beswick. He was a member of last season's Academy League championship winning team and the play-offs final team, featured in the FA trophy and has done well at reserve team level for a while. Martin Allen had him on the first team fringe at the beginning of the season and only a fairly lengthy injury set him back later.

Our fist team is in desperate need of wingers at the moment and who knows, maybe he could help us in this respect. Only time will tell. All he can do is keep putting in those performances and hopefully work his way into the side.
Bert Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 I like Bes. Very approachable lad, just wants to work hard and play football.
lildave3 Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 Come on Thracian, hit Sappleton with a 10, just for my sake.

Bert Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 I'd love to see you try tbh Although you probably would. I would try. What happens next is anyone's guess, although, most people's guess would have the same outcome.
Joe. Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 I would try. What happens next is anyone's guess, although, most people's guess would have the same outcome. You'd be Sappletised. And nobody wants to see that happen do they?

Thracian Posted 13 February 2008 Author Posted 13 February 2008 Come on Thracian, hit Sappleton with a 10, just for my sake. :D That shot of his would have rated a 10 if the goalie had got in the way. A 10-second knock-out.
lildave3 Posted 13 February 2008 Posted 13 February 2008 You'd be Sappletised. And nobody wants to see that happen do they? If it happened to Elvis I would.
Thracian Posted 14 February 2008 Author Posted 14 February 2008 If it happened to Elvis I would. You'd have loved a video of Sapp tonight. First he was limping quite badly and looked like he wouldn't stay five minutes on the pitch. Where the hell he found a yard or two's speed to beat the offside trap in taking the pass for his goal I don't know but there was no chance he'd take advantage - defenders overhauled him in a blink, like cheetahs chasing a wounded elephant. Then there was his attempt at controlling the ball. It seemed to get caught in his legs and he nearly fell over himself. Finally, and almost in slow motion, he somehow had everything sorted and from just outside the area hit this ferocious shot. The angle meant no-one was sure where it would end up but everyone knew that no-one would stop it and in that split second the net shuddered. What a goal but so fast we hardly saw it. :scarf:

The lad is gonna be massive... ... Make of that what you will ()
