Darkzzz_ Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 As a fan of Italian Football and a fan of talented players in general... It was sad to see what happened to Ronaldo last night. I really doubt he will make a comeback from this.... A player who on his day could be magical, i think this time it is just one step to far. Nice little article below. http://www.channel4.com/sport/football_ita...blogs/al19.html
Joe. Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 It'd be really disappointing to see him retire so early. Ok, he's not what he used to be, but he's still got it. His goalscoring record in his career has been phenomenal and he's been a fantastic player. It wouldn't surprise me if this was the last we see of Ronaldo. And even if he does make a comeback it won't be for long...

Joe. Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 http://www.soccerbase.com/players_details.sd?playerid=9974 This page speaks for itself. And his AC Milan goalscoring record is superb too believe it or not.

Koke Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 The amount of fanboys this guy had was unbelievable. During my school years literally everyone had a Ronaldo shirt, Barca or Inter replica shirt. Everybody talked about his moves and skills, and tried to copy the move he did last night on some poor Spanish defender. He's one of my favorite players of his generation, he could rip anyone apart if he felt like it. But its kinda sad to see him retire (if he actually retires) in such an awful way. His career stats speaks for itself. His personal cabinet trophy speaks for itself. The man was already a legend way before he hit his thirties.
lildave3 Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 The man was my idol as a kid, as odd as that sounds. Was different class at Barca. A real shame he's been so injury prone.
SamL Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Great player, such a shame! He could've achieved so much more. Hopefully he'll attempt to come back.
Joe. Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Great player, such a shame! He could've achieved so much more. Well he's not done badly for himself Sam
lildave3 Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Well he's not done badly for himself Sam He's right though. I personally think he could have gone on and become one of the best players in history without constant injuries, mostly to the knee. That's just me though.
Koke Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 He's got pretty much everything he could possible get. Apart from a CL medal.
Uncle Albert Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Got to be one of the best natural goalscorers in history. Best was watching him in the World Cup '98, except from the final.
Moreton Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 It would be sad and a terrible loss for a player like Ronaldo, a magician with a ball, to retire and i hope that he does make a good recovery and he gets back doing what he does best, pulling of mesmerizing tricks with a football.
WetFlannel Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 As my username on this site used to be 9Ronaldo and I've had countless debates over him, I suppose I have to have some input. He got stretchered off in tears. He's meant to be a gentleman off the pitch, and its a shame to see in my opinion one of the worlds greatest players to have his outstanding career ended in this way. People mock him over his weight issues, and some people assume its because he doesnt care. Would you cry if your career was in jeapordy if you didnt care? So many injuries and personal life problems have caused many critics over the years to constantly slate him and felt it was right to label him names, which shows a complete disrespect to who he is. Still a fantastic player to date, hes proven alot of people wrong over the years and has formed a goal scoring record which most players on this planet dream of having and, not just this, he played the game how it was meant to be played. He's played at every top club in the world, won an extensive number of trophies and also has individual titles to his name. AC Milan - Although this goal is in the previous video, this deserves an individual mention. World Class http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18v_z95x8Co The career of Ronaldo was over when he left Madrid. Everyone wrote him off and this magnificent player was no more. The media portrayed him as some has been who had nothing left to offer but comedy value. How wrong they were. He once again picked himself up, and demonstrated ENORMOUS courage to keep his head down and work. It's such a shame this has now happened... not just for him, but for football. No player of his calibre deserves to end his career with people having to comfort him and provide him with support (yet again). Best of luck Ronnie in the future. True Legend.
WetFlannel Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Maybe this video is worth mroe of a mention... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2RO9goepFSc...feature=related
Samilktray Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 Wish id watched more of Ronaldo. Phonemenal.
The Reverend Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 There was/is only guarantee about Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, and that was if you play him, he will score goals. And lots of them. His rate of over 0.6 goals per game, at the TOP level, speaks for itself. He's had his problems, but to finish his career like this would be an absolute tragedy. And on a side note, i find it unbelievable hes never won a CL medal. He was at Madrid when they were winning them, so i can only assume he was injured.

Didn't they win it the last time then signed him the summer following it?
WetFlannel Posted 14 February 2008 Posted 14 February 2008 No he wasn't was he?Didn't they win it the last time then signed him the summer following it? Indeed. Could of won it last season if he wasn't cup tied.

Durnerz Posted 15 February 2008 Posted 15 February 2008 Like many have said, this man was a legend when we were growing up and he was only young himself then. To come back from what he has done in previous years has been remarkable and to still be playing at the top level also. Sadly this may be a bridge too far.
