Finchy Posted 19 February 2008 Posted 19 February 2008 Playing Leicester uni in May, tickets go on sale Friday
The People's Hero Posted 19 February 2008 Posted 19 February 2008 They used to be good. I've seen them twice in the past 3 or 4 years though and can confirm they are a bag of sh ite now.

That's a bit harsh. I'd still go and see them at a push. I haven't got the last album but the one with the lake on the front (Up at The Lake, no less) a couple of years ago was really good, I thought

Aye - past the sell by date now. And if you think TPH was "a bit harsh"... I have a theory that all rock/pop musicians should be culled at 40 - incapable of producing good music beyond that age There are a few exceptions to the rule, but worth the sacrifice to avoid the dross I feel!

Disagree with that one chap, and you're closer to 40 than I am! (and you may yet have a classic album in you). The last Morrissey (49 this year) album is top, and the last 3 Fall Albums are brilliant (Mark E Smith is 51 this year - doesn't look a day over 65). I'd be all for culling Oasis at 40. Or indeed 30 for that matter, but better late than never
The People's Hero Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 Can't do that. Dylan is still producing some good stuff even now and he's like 254.

I DID say there were exceptions to the rule! Add to the list of decent 40 plusers: Neil Young Johnny Cash (ok, so he's dead now, but he was decent 40+) The Flaming Lips Mark Lanegan Mercury Rev Portishead Spiritualized and many, many blues acts (seems that in this catergory at least, you improve with age!) No doubt there are more, but what I meant was once great bands like the Rolling Stones and The Cure should really stop embarressing themselves. It saddens me
Bellend Sebastian Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 Can't do that. Dylan is still producing some good stuff even now and he's like 254. You've been reading Q again. Stop it I DID say there were exceptions to the rule! You did, sorry. And you've quoted some very good examples
The People's Hero Posted 20 February 2008 Posted 20 February 2008 You've been reading Q again. Stop it I've been doing no such thing!
MikeyT Posted 24 February 2008 Posted 24 February 2008 They are ok i guess. few songs i could listen to. I actually saw them supporting The Rolling Stones at Twickenham a few years ago. They were ok live! Although couldnt really hear the vocals that well! But i blame the techies for that!
grth2004 Posted 24 February 2008 Posted 24 February 2008 boring and uninspiring crap . dont know what it is but his voice just annoys me
Filbert_Ross Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 25 sheets to get in is a bit steep. still wanna go though
Head Honcho Posted 26 February 2008 Posted 26 February 2008 Have always been great live but they've never really recovered from the death of Rob Collins. Only their second album failed to deliver and from what I've heard of the new album they've bagged a good un. I'm slightly biased as I met them on many occasions (if playing them at pool counts for met) when they were in Wales recording the Telling Stories album (they used to love TJ's in Newport) Sadly this was RC's last album
The People's Hero Posted 28 February 2008 Posted 28 February 2008 I quite enjoyed the one which is supposed to be Dylan inspired with lots of Harmonica and put on drawly, rough singing. More the music than the singing though. The lyrics tend to be fairly uninspired. Ho-hum. They aren't awful, don't get me wrong, just agree, they never recovered after RC's death.
Finchy Posted 3 March 2008 Author Posted 3 March 2008 Just downloaded their new FREE album, and i like it, some good tunes.
