blue blood Posted 24 March 2008 Author Posted 24 March 2008 Welcome back. How was it? We lander in mumbai, from there we went for a night to surat just to stop over as we had a 14 hour drive The next day to junaghar where we stopped for a festival called shivratri. Here there was a 4 day fetival whee over a million people gathered, a lot of priests and religious men come down from the hills for this festival. We were mainly at this one place which i likened to a drugs den, there was ganja, bhang (a kind of upper drug), opium etc goin down there...all old men from villages sessioning it up showing us young ones how its done!! from junaghar we travelled to udaipur/jaipur which is in rajasthan (desert land) saw some nice forts and learnt a lot about the history (from the raj era) next stop from jaipur was a direct run to amritsar (punjab) now this was a 3 day drive FYi people dont do that run in one straight journey but we had some smokes and bacardi to keep us going!! Amritsar, the golden temple is a place i found peace and contentment beyond comprehension. We went to the martys well in amtrisar - i will not go into too much detail as it stirred up some hatred. Next stop from amritsar was Jalandhar - Model town, a town built to spec, very modern, very posh and very clean. Also had the runs here after a session of 13 big botthes of fosters and 2 plates of chilli cicken and a plate of chilli paneer!! Jalandhar to chandighar, another modern chit with modern dressed people and western shops. Next stop was Shimla, What a place!! the roads are scary, the scrapped vehicles from accidents are stomach churining and the air is soo thin! A cig lasted a good 20 mins + and the people are short as are the dogs etc. shimla is a mountian surrounded with other mountians and the highest peak is 2500 meters above sea level. I think shimal also forms the foot hills of the himalayas. It was cold up there!! From Shimla we went to haridwar and rishikesh, the river ganges runs through here and is historically significant to hindus. We participated in prayers here (aarti) this ceremony is electric and euphoric. haridwar to agra and the taj mahal. It was hot but pretty, everything its cracked up to be! from agra we went back to surat and we stayed in a village near by. We got some well needed rest here and built camp fires in the evening and had some great sessions. from surat we went to mumbai and stayed in a swanky apartment. We did a tour of the beaches and participated in holi here...amazing!! colourful, vibrant and friendly, then we went for a dip in the sea to wash off the colours!! A lot of other things happened but im hongry so i cant be asked typing more now! Well now we are back in england and wish i was still out there!
