Raj Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 Has been on the last few Fridays with The boys from Lancaster Boys School. Gareth Malone (choirmaster) got some lads to sing at the Royal Albert Hall. This from no one wanting to sing, months earlier. I only mention it cos the Headteacher(Paul Craven) was my Mrs boss at his last School(Oadby Manor) I actually dont think anyone is bothered, but it's keeping my mind off the Cov game!!!

Raj Posted 23 February 2008 Author Posted 23 February 2008 I watched it as it was my old school. Went there when it first opened. I knew you wouldnt let me down! Som of the kids were really decent lads. I really felt for the lad with cancer and the tubby lad who loved singing! Amazing how some of the "bad boys" actually were good singers at heart! Hope they keep it up!

Apart from being a scuffy load of gits they all came across as well balanced likeable lads, just like it was when I went there.
Raj Posted 23 February 2008 Author Posted 23 February 2008 Apart from being a scuffy load of gits they all came across as well balanced likeable lads, just like it was when I went there. Has it always been a Boys only School?
davieG Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 Has it always been a Boys only School? Yes, I first went when it was squashed between the University and what was Wyggeston Boys School on Victoria Park. I guess nearly all schools were single sex then. It was a right dump full of yobs, it used to be viewed as a Preparatory School for Borstal It then moved to brand new premises in Knighton Lane east and merged with Lansdowne Road Boys School. I guess it stayed a boys only school because of it's close proximity to Sir Johnathan North Girls.

He also used to do the Rugby commentry for Radio Leicester. It was because of him being Rugby fanatic that we were never allowed to play football.
MPH Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 The one memory of lanky boys i have is Mr Mason and his truly awful flairs.. what possessed the man to wear flairs in the 80's was beyond me.. I think he ended up committing suicide aswell..

MPH Posted 23 February 2008 Posted 23 February 2008 That means Hopkins must have been about 90 and Mason about 80 when you were there well i dont remember the name Hopkins but Mr mason died the year i was there. I remember coming in one morning and someone told me- we were all gathered in the play ground talking about it. was quite sad and definately shocking. - apparently his daughter went to Johnny north- my sister did too and knew her. I felt bad when he died because a few of us used to make fun of him quite a bit...
