Ben Foster on loan?

Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster is open to being farmed out on loan again as he looks to regain full fitness after a serious knee injury.

The former Watford loanee damaged cruciate knee ligaments last summer and has not played all season.

However, Foster is back in full training with The Red Devils and is pencilled in for a reserve clash within the next few weeks.

Foster has not discussed a fresh loan with United, but does not see the harm in playing first-team football between now and the summer.

One step at a time

"There have been no discussions," he told Sky Sports News. "I've not heard what's going to happen with me this season. I'm just taking things one step at a time.

"I'm pencilled in to play my first reserve team match in a weeks' time. I'll talk to the coaches then and see what they choose to do.

"If the chance to go out on loan comes along then that could only be good playing week-in, week-out. I don't see what harm could come from that."

No expectations

Foster is currently well down United's pecking order following his lengthy injury and the 24-year-old is not expecting to feature between the sticks for Sir Alex Ferguson this season.

"I'm not expecting to play this season. I can't expect to be put in ahead of anyone at this stage of the season," he continued.

"At the start of the season when I found out about the injury I pretty much wrote the season off. Edwin's been in fantastic form this season.

"I'd love to play. I feel as though I'm ready to go. I've been training for three or four weeks now and I feel good physically. The knee feels good."

Although I like Alnwick and think he's done well there is no doubt this man is better, would it be worth making a move for him?

We need a permanent, young, decent keeper. If we get Alnwick for reasonable price, i'd go for it. He has potential and is clearly a good keeper at this level. Foster would be better, but in terms of a permanent move Man Utd wouldn't let him go cheaply.

I was thinking more about right now, there are always decent keepers moving around in the summer, we just never seem to make a bid

In terms of now, I'd just keep Alnwick...he's not done that badly and we don't need to introduce another keeper to the team, it's just not worth it imo.

We dont need a goalkeeper until the end of the season ffs.

Exactly Maybes. Some people are so stupid.

Ben Foster will go on loan to a Prem club, like Carson did. We wouldn't even be a blip on his radar.

he can't go on loan to a prem club, only a Football League Club

He'd go to a Premiership team over any Championship team.

He's been in the England setup now- definitely will be setting his sights higher than the likes of us unfortunately.

I agree if that option was availible to him he would, but Prem clubs can't loan anyone atm

When we already have a goalkeeper on loan until the end of the season. That's why it's stupid.

I don't care about that, my only interest is to improve the side, weather that means having a second keeper on loan or not

Oh, ok, we must sign him immediately, because you don't care.

It won't happen because

1. We have a goalkeeper already on loan until the end of the season.

2. He won't want to come to us.

3. We're not good enough, Avram Grant says so.

4. It won't ahppen.
