Bedford Fox Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 With a McCarthy thread being started i thought i should start a thread saying what a great signing Hughes looks to be. He looks to be an alround midfeild player! Can he fill the whole left by Muzzy Izzet.

I think Hughes looks more creative than Muzzy Izzet was... the best thing about Muzzy Izzet was his great set pieces which IMO we still really miss.. and also the ammount of assists he gave us was phenomenal.. I think Hughes looks like a different type of player to Izzet myself... but he has age on his side, I think having him and Gareth Williams in midfield could turn out to be another fantastic midfield for us..
Katy Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 Im pretty sure Hughes will turn out to be CLs best signing, he looks the business and has skill as well as a touch of class.

Wellman Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 LOOK AT MY SIG!!!! Hughes was awesome last night and I've been more and more impressed with him everytime he's played
foxesfan69 Posted 19 March 2005 Posted 19 March 2005 Hughes was awesome last night, controlled the midfield. So if Levein is going to play a 4-4-2 who will he pick in midfield?

Guest Daniel Posted 20 March 2005 Posted 20 March 2005 Im very pleased with Hughes so far, looks to be a very good signing by Super Levein. He did well at West Ham on Friday and I hope he continues to perform like this.
Ash Posted 20 March 2005 Posted 20 March 2005 Hughes is looking very good at the moment , But with Hughes playing well at the moment it means no place for our super Gareth Williams.
Oli Posted 20 March 2005 Posted 20 March 2005 I think Hughes has more talent and creativity than Williams, he is already showing he can do it for us. Williams still hasn't impressed me alot.
Frenzied Posted 21 March 2005 Posted 21 March 2005 Hughes looked superb on Friday. He seems to be a cross between Izzet and Mcallister - the engine of Izzet and the vision of Gary Mac. There was one moment in fridays game where he controlled a difficult ball with a Cruyff and in his second movement picked out Connolly with a superb crossfield pass. Connolly should have been more greedy and at that point we'd have been 3-1 up.
Ric Flair Posted 21 March 2005 Posted 21 March 2005 He's our most creative player and thankgod Levein was quick off the mark to sign him, the same with McCarthy too. Hughes is showing signs of being more than capable of cutting it at the highest level given the chance. My only concern is that I hope Williams and Hughes can play in midfield together, it would be a shame to have one of them on the bench when they are our two best passers of the ball.

However, I'd like to see a five man midfield, as we had most of the time under O'Neill. It would be good to have Gudjonsson filling the Lennon role with Hughes and Williams providing the creativity.
Random Burglar Posted 21 March 2005 Posted 21 March 2005 Im very impressed!! Brilliant on and off the ball!! Cant wait to see what else he brings to the team!!!

I think ideally CL would like to play a combination of Williams/Gudjonsson/Hughes, but will want to retain 2 men upfront. He's not a great fan of the 3-5-2 system either, so it remains to be seen who get's left out as it seems 4-4-2 will be the way forward.
