maddog Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 I have just felt sick to the stomach. Innocently flicking through the shocks i almost regurgitated. I remember the discussions before this match well 'where will we be playing next round?' 'Old Trafford, Anfield?' This is the worst end result to a game i have ever seen. I have never felt so bad after a Leicester City match than that one. Only relegation from The Championship could top that awful day. http://news.uk.msn.com/top-ten-fa-cup-shoc...index=1#7348852

Joe. Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 It's still unbelievable whenever you read about it. You just have to wonder "if only"...
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 I've never felt so empty after a game. In those days you turned up to Leicester games almost expecting a win. These days it's the opposite. I'd barely even contemplated the idea of us losing that game beforehand. Afterwards I just wandered through the streets near the ground in a daze. At the time it felt like something or someone had died, and with the benefit of hindsight that doesn't seem like such an excessive statement. We've never really been the same club since. I was sat in the Kop, about five rows from the front. Dead centre of the goal. As soon as their winner went in, I stood up. No-one told me to sit down. We were all just shell-shocked. Even after the Chelsea game this season, the Fulham game last season, losing at home to various dreadful teams in this division - I never felt that bad. The only thing I could possibly compare it to would be the Wembley defeats.
Guest Posted 7 March 2008 Posted 7 March 2008 This match was the start of the slippery slope we've been on ever since. I think there were those of us who could see it coming, but it was still a shock when it happened. It's one of the few games where I have openly wept on the terraces. For me, when put into context, the Bolton game on the opening game of the next season was worse.

The only thing I could possibly compare it to would be the Wembley defeats. At the time we were 4th in the league, just beaten Liverpool 2-0 and looked certain to progress to the semi-finals. It looked so promising and then it went a bit wrong. When I see the highlights on TV now it still depresses me. It seemed to initiate the downward spiral that we've been on ever since. Ah well, just get drunk.
reynard Posted 8 March 2008 Posted 8 March 2008 surely our "Harlow" debacle was worse Agreed though not many on here probably remember that one.
Matt Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 About 2 seasons after this happened, bearing in mind many players from that team had left and we only had a few players left from that team anyone remember the players still blaming the Wycombe defeat. As already been said that was the start of this shite, but to blame that game considering we must have had a good 5/6 different teams since. Thanks Peter Taylor (The bloke who I really blame, Fair enough without him we may still be where we are now, We may have still got relegated but I put a huge amount of money saying if we never had Peter Taylor we wouldn't be in this much of a mess)
Stevosevic Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 We've been promoted again since this, we can't keep blaming Taylor.
maddog Posted 9 March 2008 Author Posted 9 March 2008 I blame Ade Akinbyi for that Wycombe defeat. I remember him missing an easy 1 on 1 chance. Im still emotionally scarred and always will be after that defeat. If it was a choice between promotion from the Championship or winning the Fa Cup id choose the cup every time, just so i can finally forget that Wycombe defeat. Until we win the cup, i will always be haunted by it. Look at the Semi-finalists this year, if only we had progressed in the cup this season, it would be the best chance we may ever get to winning it.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 oh my god it didnt include Chesterfield 0 Basingstoke 1 That was better than Havants acheivement
