Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 With the shock results over this weekend has got me thinking, isnt it great that there could be a lower league team in europe what is everyone elses view on this! Also who do you think will win the F.A Cup, my personal opinion would be Barnsley they deserve it having beaten liverpool on there own turf and chelsea at home but i know footie does not work like that.

It'd be brillaint to see someone new in Europe, not that it'd last for more than 5 minutes. Without a doubt Barnsley deserve to win the cup, but as we all know you don't always get what you deserve. Pompey's quality will shine through when it really matters and they'll win the cup IMO.

Lovejoy Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 I fancy West Brom tbh (though Pompey are undoubted favourites). They like to play football and in all honesty are the best of the Championship sides. But I, like most others, want Barnsley to win it.

Should Portsmouth win it, and finish in the top 5, and Cardiff finish runners up and aren't allowed in Europe, then the next placed team in the league would get it. Not gonna happen though.
Bryn Posted 9 March 2008 Posted 9 March 2008 To all those confused, as I understand it; Teams like Cardiff, Swansea, Wrexham etc. etc. are in the English league because when they were formed there was no Welsh league. When the Welsh league was formed, UEFA asked the Welsh sides to go and join it. They refused. UEFA said that no team was allowed to enter European competition if they did not qualify from the league of their own nation. Hence, in theory, if a Welsh team qualified for Europe, UEFA supposedly would not let them play. However. If a Welsh team qualify for Europe and UEFA refuse, there would be a court case faster than you can say Iwan Roberts. They'd get in.
