Champions League Rights

At the moment, the UK Champions League rights look like this.

ITV: Tuesday first and second pick.

SKY: All other games on Tuesday and Wednesday.

However from the 2009 season Sky Sports have won the rights to all games, minus first choice on Wednesday nights. It is possible that this last game will also go to Sky, and I'm not happpy about this. It is not fair that all games should be on Sky as for some people, they either don't have Sky or can't watch it during midweek nights.

What do people think of this. Should the Champions League be protected under the same law as the FA Cup final, which insists it be shown on free to air TV? And who should get the final game. BBC, ITV, Sky or Five. Personally I'd go for ITV as they've always been good with Champions League coverage and I don't mind the odd add break. Plus if the BBC gained the rights, the lisence payer would have to pay more, as the BBC would have to fork out more money to FIFA as they can't advertise. What do people think?

Everybody has fed the monster.

Now it's biting you in backside.

The monster being Sky you mean?

Personally doesn't affect me but I do feel for those who have no access to Sky.

But it just goes to show how powerful Sky are now, they're slowly taking power of almost everything. Maybe the BBC will give in one day and have to sell up the FA Cup rights? There's just so much money involved these days and Sky are a huge part of all of this.

From next year England home games and first choice FA Cup games will be shown by ITV and second choice FA Cup games and away England games will be shown by Setanta. So they already have!

You're right though. It should be about quality of coverage and availability not money.

Hopefully not. I prefer BBC and ITV for FA Cup and Champions League games for some reason.

Sky are doing with other programmes aswell, not just the football.

It doesnt affect me but they should show consideration for thoughs who cant recieve Sky.

I really don't see how you could prefer ITV

I hate ITV coverage.

Not as bad as Channel 5. ItV are pretty poor but BBC are the best for England games but Sky are the kings for premiership games. Andy Gray and Martin Tyler are by far the best.

Why? There's no explanation for it.

Also Richard Keys and Jamie Redknapp are very good before the match, half time and after the game. They talk alot of sence unlike Robbie Earle and Andy Townsend.

I've always liked Andy and Robbie. They work well with Steve Rider. I also like Redknapp and Keys, they're just as good. What bothers me is that I can't watch games on Sky as my Mum and Dad are always watching stuff on Sky at that time of the evening. It just cheeses me off that Uefa ignoring the fact that there are a lot of people out there who can't watch games on Sky.

Don't your dad watch football ?

No not really. He follows it but only really watches it when we go to watch City. Or when there's a really big game such as UCL, Euro or World Cup final.

See what you are saying though mate, I think its the same as all League games are on Sky.

Thats changing soon though isnt it with the BBC showing 4 Championship games a season. Not alot i know but least they are showing some.

No offense, but they couldn't give two shits about these people.

Who ever offers the most is going to get it and nobody is competing with Sky.

Nothing beats though a good premiership match on a sunday afternoon around 4 o clock.

You should get sky upstairs

I get to watch Leicester games on Sky, my Dad will watch those! I also get to watch Premeirship games as they're on at the weekends, it's just UCL I struggle to catch.

None taken, that's exactly what they think.

Yes, might have to stretch my funds to get that.

Your dealing with the man who runs the country so I don't think anyone has any help of overturning sky.

I agree 100% with you though. Just nothing will ever come about for it. When Each Televised Prem game is charged at over £2 Million you can see the scales....
