JoeyB Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Villa have been warned their ground could be closed if fans in the Holte End continue to stand.The threat came at a regular meeting between Birmingham City Council and club head of safety and security John Handley. Handley claims supporters in the Holte End upper tier K block persistently stand, contravening safety rules. But he said any closure wouldn’t happen this season. “The Holte holds 13,000 people and we’re talking about a section of 1,000 seats in the upper Holte, K block,” said Handley. “We’re addressing the problem of fans standing in that area. “Standing is permitted at times of excitement such as when a goal is scored or when a player is cautioned, but these people resist every attempt to get them to sit down.”

john_lcfc Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 hopefully this will happen. Then the media attention that would no doubt follow will open up the debate again and we can push for safe standing and get closer to that goal than we are at the current time. Bring it on brum council.
Floating Fox Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Won't happen villa will just make people sit. Their new onwners have actually been very good, from what I've heard (As you probably know yourself..). So hopefully they won't do that...

If they stand the council have the power, so how can the owners (club) stop it unless they get villa fans to sit, the owners may have no problem with standing (yanks for ya) but the rules are different to the USA.

Yes but the owners can tell the council where they can shove their threats and take them to court like Manure did a while back. The council know they have nothing to stand on and back down.

So why do the Man u stewards throw people out for standing, and have been quite rough in doing so if the club dont care about standing?
