DB11 Posted 26 March 2008 Posted 26 March 2008 West Bromwich Albion v Portsmouth REFEREE: Howard Webb ASSISTANTS: Darren Cann - Mike Mullarkey FOURTH OFFICIAL: Mark Clattenburg Barnsley v Cardiff REFEREE: Alan Wiley ASSISTANTS: Phil Sharp - Andy Garrett FOURTH OFFICIAL: Steve Bennett FIFTH OFFICIAL As per last year, a FIFTH OFFICIAL will be used on each match. This is to be Dave Richardson a Select Group Assistant and newly appointed to the FIFA Assistant's list.
DB11 Posted 26 March 2008 Author Posted 26 March 2008 In case one of the other guys get injured and the fourth official has to go on to replace him, the fifth official becomes the fourth official. Other than that, he just gets to watch the game for free

isaidno Posted 27 March 2008 Posted 27 March 2008 Why? leicester 2 , Villa 3. League cup last season. Woeful referee. Gave Villa 2 very dodgy penalties that Villa didn't even appeal for !

Father Ted Posted 28 March 2008 Posted 28 March 2008 Remember the Villa game along with all the other dodgy decisions he has come up with in other important matches like last year when Everton play Liverpool and he gave Liverpool a penalty for no reason and sent the Everton player off when there was no evidence to and then later on in the match Dirk Kuyt did a 2 footed lunge and wasn't even booked if I remember rightly so... I was also speaking to a Watford fan and he said that they had Clattenburg for there match against Stoke and he refereed the match so badly both the Watford AND the Stoke supporters were singing together 'you don't know what your doing'. The Watford fan reckons it was the worst refereed match he'd seen for 10 years.
act smiley Posted 28 March 2008 Posted 28 March 2008 He came very close to causing a riot thanks to an incredibly shoddy job for Cardiff - Leeds last season was the worst I've ever seen from any ref - Cardiff were down to 9, when one incident was a foul that wasn't worth a card and the other 3 weren't even fouls at all (including being suckered by the worst dive I've EVER seen), then failing to send off a Leeds player for making a diving save on the line, despite obviously seeing it as he gave the penalty. I honestly don't see how he's still rated that highly after turning so many matches into disasters.

They tend to referee it in there nonsensical Premiership style that nobody in the lower leagues is accustomed to. Always causes more trouble than it's worth.
