Kilworthfox Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Olly said that it was not a penalty on SSN, and that once again a big decision has gone against us. He said that the 4th official judged that it was not a penalty but was not allowed to tell the ref? FUBAR

Guest Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 He said the one at Covscum wasn't a peno, when it clearly was. Although how the ref in that game could have seen it still bemuses me....
Kilworthfox Posted 5 April 2008 Author Posted 5 April 2008 Another thread Tommy. I am here to dictate fact
dandannieldanok Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Good dive from Billy Sharp, we ought to cheat more often instead of being cheated ourselves.
lildave3 Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Tbh, i did think he shoved him. But not a sending off. If it's a penalty then he has to walk. Fact. And Dan, I personally didn't think he dived, just sort of lost his footing. Don't know though, i'll wait 'til I see it.

lildave3 Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 There was a man covering Dave! I didn't see him. No way would this covering man have stopped him, legally anyway.
Kilworthfox Posted 5 April 2008 Author Posted 5 April 2008 I didn't see him.No way would this covering man have stopped him, legally anyway. He had a rifle, a book of Kevin Russels 1001 haircuts, a beginners guide to Bryan Robson, The Swedish National women's Volleyball team in reserve and a lollypop in his pocket and you don't think he could have stopped him? You are mistaken Dave

Ultra Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Good dive from Billy Sharp, we ought to cheat more often instead of being cheated ourselves. His dive for the free-kick which brought the second goal was better... Perhaps next week will see some decisions go our way for a change.
dandannieldanok Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 And Dan, I personally didn't think he dived, just sort of lost his footing. Don't know though, i'll wait 'til I see it. Quite possibly and I should probably wait until I've seen it again but if I remember correctly as soon as he hit the floor he looked straight at the ref. Anyone hear Ollie call Sharp a turkey on RL after the game
The Reverend Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 No, no, no, **** it. It's Holloways fault. How can you blame the ref, all he did was give a decision that effectively changed the whole context of the game. The ref's fault? Ha, you lot need to take a look at the real reason we are where we are! Don't you agree Matt?!
Joe. Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Yep, I agree with Ollie. At the time I saw it as no penalty. Unfortunately the linesman didn't see it that way and he was sold by Sharp's fall. And obviously a goal down and ten men after this was never going to help us from thereon after.
Thracian Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 I really don't see how an official 50-odd yards away can be certain that was a penalty when the referee some 10 yards away didn't look like he'd give anything. It was Ipswich away all over again and in my view it is another example of dogmatic decisions being applied to situations where there is much cause for doubt. My view, and it is by no means conclusive, was that the Sheffield player knew he had a defender in close proximity and, when he moved into the box, he slowed up, waited for what became unavoidable though light contact and went down faster than the victim of a sniper. To me he contrived a penalty and might have been booked for ungentlemanly conduct but I wouldn't have done that because it would have been impossible to be sure, just as it was hard to be sure Kisnorbo made any relevent contact with the Sheffield player at all, never mind something deliberate which was meant to deny a goalscoring chance and merited being sent off for. All in all the penalty was highly debateable at best. And the sending off so totally unjustified and ruinous for the game as a proper contest.
dandannieldanok Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 Was this "foul" even in the penalty area anyway, looked marginal.
Thracian Posted 5 April 2008 Posted 5 April 2008 His dive for the free-kick which brought the second goal was better...Perhaps next week will see some decisions go our way for a change. I wouldn't bet on it. Get the technology in. It will stop referees robbing people whether deliberately, cos there have been bent refs, or mistakenly. With so many incidents such as this I cannot see a single argument against having a system which is far more likely to deliver justice than any referee.

But don't forget, they do 'a difficult job' so we shouldn't get on at them.

How would they be able to cheat with video replays?

Matt Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 It's Holloways fault. Did I ever say it was Holloway's fault? No, I said it's be the excuse he and the players would make. How can you blame the ref, all he did was give a decision that effectively changed the whole context of the game. The ref's fault? I did say at the time I couldn't say whether it was or not a penalty but I knew our players would crumble, fold, and give up. Ha, you lot need to take a look at the real reason we are where we are! Don't you agree Matt?! Yes. Are you telling me every game we have played poor, every game we have lost is due to a officiating decision? This is only a rough estimate but at a guess we have probably lost 5/6 games due to a officials decision and that not saying whether the decision was right or wrong. 5 or 6 games is too many i'm not excusing it and 5 or 6 games would make us clear, equally we'd probably not have won those games anyway, and off the top of my head I can think of 2 decisions that have gone our way, One which we won (West Brom) and one which we still unbelivably lost (Watford)
Ultra Posted 6 April 2008 Posted 6 April 2008 Bad refereeing this season has cost us at least ten points. It's made the difference between being in the comfort of midtable (with an outside shout of the playoffs) and the relegation dogfight we're now in. In addition, the league's refusal to dock Sheffield Wednesday points last week for a clear breach of rules suggests they would not be displeased to see us take the drop.
