Simi Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Absolutely.Until the FA values technical ability above physical strength, the national side will always struggle. If you beleive what is said by them, you'd think it was being done at the moment. Yet they continue to lie and kid the people at grass roots level, while more much needed money is pumped around for the big clubs. The discipline is a joke as well, players shouldn't be getting away with blatent dissent, it's wrong that they do.
MikeyT Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 I love Scholes. One of if not my all time favourite player! All hail the Ginger Genius!
Corky Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 I love Scholes. One of if not my all time favourite player! All hail the Ginger Genius! Nice to see you've mentioned Neil Lennon
TrickyTrev Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Scholes is the most overrated underrated player in the world. I mean he is very good, pushing him out wide for that fat lump Lampard was utterly ridiculous. BUT he is not the most talented England player of a generation. That is David Beckham, who may lacks Scholes' modesty but was the finest passer of the ball in world football. He is also not United's best player, Rio or Christiano obviously. People forget that until he scored against Barcelona a lot of people were saying Anderson should be in the team ahead of him, they had a point, the young lad is magical. Still nice touch, good long range shot, Excellent passing range, tactcial nouse. Class act.
Ultra Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Scholes > Beckham. But neither of them, even in their heyday, was as good as Zidane, Ronaldinho or Kaka.

Still only 22, he's achieved more than Beckham had at his age. Rooney is a special player when in the hole.
TrickyTrev Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Scholes > Beckham. But neither of them, even in their heyday, was as good as Zidane, Ronaldinho or Kaka. Well neither of them 3 were English. Neither were any of them as good as Big Fat Ron if we're going global.

He is a very special player though, so smart. We've produced some good players this decade.
Tevez Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Scholes > Beckham. But neither of them, even in their heyday, was as good as Zidane, Ronaldinho or Kaka. Two different players. I think a prime Steven Gerrard is better than a prime Paul Scholes.
Ultra Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Well neither of them 3 were English. Neither were any of them as good as Big Fat Ron if we're going global. Ronaldo I, when fit, was the best striker of his generation, without question. We're talking midfielders here, though. And neither Scholes nor Beckham have consistently achieved at international level for either club or country.
Ultra Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Two different players. I think a prime Steven Gerrard is better than a prime Paul Scholes. So why isn't Gerrard at Euro 2008 then?

Look at the achievements between them, the accolades etc. Far far more than Gerrard has got. Beckham has over 100 Caps for his country, thats a magical achievement in itself. SCHOLES Premier League Titles: 8 FA Cup Titles 3 League Cup 1 UEFA Champions League 1 (maybe 2 tonight) Intercontinental Cup 1 Community Shield 5 England Caps: 66 England Goals: 14 Man Utd Apps/Goals: 568/139 BECKHAM Games/Goals: 560/103 Premier League Titles: 6 FA Cup: 2 Champions League: 1 Community Shield: 4 England Caps: 100 Hardley consistent?
Joe. Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 So why isn't Gerrard at Euro 2008 then? I'd agree with Tevez to be honest, a Gerrard in his prime is possibly the best central midfielder going.

And from a neutrals point of view look at how many England caps they both have. Beckham.
Simi Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 So why isn't Gerrard at Euro 2008 then? Who's Paul Scholes playing for then?
Tommy G Posted 21 May 2008 Author Posted 21 May 2008 And from a neutrals point of view look at how many England caps they both have.Beckham. Thats not the point. Ultra said neither Scholes nor Beckham have performed consistently over the years at either Club/National Level. Which is Bollocks
Ultra Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Thats not the point. Ultra said neither Scholes nor Beckham have performed consistently over the years at either Club/National Level. Which is Bollocks Is it hell. They have ONE Champions League medal and two Intercontinental Cup medals between them and won jack with England. Other players I mentioned have won a lot more top-level tournaments.
Darkzzz_ Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 Fantastic player and just to touch on what someone else said above, such a shame he retired from the international stage when he did!!
Tommy G Posted 21 May 2008 Author Posted 21 May 2008 Is it hell. They have ONE Champions League medal between them and won jack with England.Other players I mentioned have won a lot more. They were both in the squad that won it. 1+1=2 but to say they haven't been consistent is laughable!! Have some English Pride you fool, instead of mulling over sick note Ronaldo. He's a striker FFS, and a completely different player. No doubt he has been one of the best strikers of his generation and NATIONALITY, were talking about english players here
Ultra Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 I'm not disputing that they have both had extremely successful careers. However, I don't believe they deserve the "world-class" tag that some on here have given them.

Tommy G Posted 21 May 2008 Author Posted 21 May 2008 Yes, i wish i was as fat as him! He has got a bit of a belly on him to be fair Gives away fans an excuse to abuse him I guess?
MikeyT Posted 21 May 2008 Posted 21 May 2008 He has got a bit of a belly on him to be fair Gives away fans an excuse to abuse him I guess? If he's fat, then 99.9% of this country are overweight then!
