What the Moscow dust-up taught us is that we should be grateful to Steve McClaren for guiding us to Euro 2008 wilderness because his fumblings have spared us a summer of embarrassment and heartache. Had England been preparing for Euro 2008 we'd no doubt have been told by now that Rooney was the key to English hopes of success - and his performance in Moscow would have given the rest of Europe a heartier belly-laugh than Mac's umbrella. For a large part of the match I thought Rooney had defected. His contribution was so wretched that I can only put it down to nerves before his nuptials in June, which is the traditional month for weddings. The other 11 are for divorce. ------ Not sure his colleague Oliver Holt would agree he is so biased towards any england player especially Rooney its verging on obsession. I swear if rooney was injured and didnt play Holt would still pick him as man of the match.
