Dr The Singh Posted 22 May 2008 Posted 22 May 2008 I must admit to being surprised to hear that, I'd have assumed your Vaio would have been reliable simply because of it's premium pricing. Is it down to the board over-heating then, they are slim buggers in the main with a fair bit packed in, or is it just that they get abused? Your right, we've had very few problems with our dell laptops but with our Sony we've had 2 go with the motherboards overheating\burning, according to Sony (unofficially) they recommended we use a heat absorbing matt if we use the laptops for long periods but that's recommended for all laptops they say!! Mine has lasted over 2 years with no issues and it's a cracking piece of kit!!
Darkzzz_ Posted 22 May 2008 Author Posted 22 May 2008 Probably not but you can get an electric shock in the unholiest of places! Big Man you have a very very valid point!! My missus has been a bit slack lately so maybe i should risk it??

Dr The Singh Posted 22 May 2008 Posted 22 May 2008 I remember them having a massive battery recall due to them torching themselves on businessmen in airports and the like. Yep, my battery was recalled!! Sony are really sloppy compared to the likes of dell etc, it took me 3 months to get get my free vista upgrade, and there customer support is dire, try getting the right drivers for your laptop!!!! Amd the repair costs are enormous, the mouse pad is £180 + vat without fitting!!! Having said that, i've had no problems with mine, it has been working a treat the best laptop i've ever had!!!

I would never buy a Acer again either, they were another bad experience, the best laptop i ever had was Dell, so i have just gone back to Dell XPS.... Ordered it yesterday so should be here soon!!! Yesssssssssss!!! Very very similar spec to yours!! http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products...;l=en&s=bsd Dell have always made solid laptops and there support is second to none, just wish i had stuck with them first time round....
Chimp Posted 23 May 2008 Posted 23 May 2008 I think i will just buy a new laptop in all honesty, i cant be assed to mess around much longer, maybe some parts of this broken laptop maybe sellable!! If you take it to a local computer repair shop and ask them to do a diagnostic test to find exactly what the problem is, this shouldn't cost more than £50. If it is the motherboard then you could ask for a quote for a replacement. Just because the motherboard is knackered doesn't mean the whole computer is a write off. Sounds to me like Sony are messing you about.

Yes mate it is the motherboard, i paid £50 for the computer shop to have a look, he said some shit about them not making this type of motherboard anymore, like my computer is ancient, it is one year old!!! Sony say it can cost up to £600 to repair, so i thought fook it, i will buy a new one, and i am now in the process of taking it further with Sony, they did say they would consider refunding me in a email they sent to me yesterday!! So we will see!!
