Floating Fox Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 This is how much each club was paid in TV money, last years figures are in Brackets. Shocking to see how much derby were paid! Manchester United £49.3m (£32m) Chelsea £45.6m (£30.9m) Arsenal £47m (£29m) Liverpool £45.4m (£28.4m) Everton £42.1m (£25.3m) Aston Villa £42.3m (£22m) Blackburn Rovers £40.2m (£22m) Portsmouth £40.4m (£23m) Manchester City £39.7m (£21m) West Ham United £36.8m (£21.1m) Tottenham Hotspur £36m (£27.3m) Newcastle United £39.2m (£21.2m) Middlesbrough £34.2m (£20.5m) Wigan Athletic £33.4m (£18.4m) Sunderland £33.6m (£6.5m*) Bolton Wanderers £32m (£24.6m) Fulham £31.3m (£20.4m) Reading £30.6m (£23.6m) Birmingham City £29.8m (£6.5m*) Derby County £29.1m (n/a) Total £815,175,812 (£502,533,570)

Nearly a billion pounds on TV money.
Number 6 Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Will only increase the gaps between the mini sections of the Premiership. Keegan was spot on, boring league, and yet we all want to be there
davieG Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 What's shocking is that they don't all receive the same amount, the systems just allow the bigger clubs to get even bigger. After all they are all needed in order for the League to exist and no one should be considered more important than anyone else. No wonder it's such an uncompetitive league.
Ashley Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Disgraceful. Some of the money given to clubs should be given straight to the FA to improve the grass roots level and more facilitys around the country for the young ones. Terrible.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 We would only be moaning if this money was spent on another sport or something so...

I'd imagine the Champions League games are in that as well so more will be paid, but I agree the gap is shocking!!

filbertway Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 If they are on tv more, they get more money. Surely that's fair.

The Stig Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Makes going up but getting a crap ammount of points worth it really.
Jay Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Will only increase the gaps between the mini sections of the Premiership. Keegan was spot on, boring league, and yet we all want to be there Yep I think I said somewhere else that The Premier League is boring people knock the SPL for being a 2 horse race but is the Premier League really any different. Unless another insane Russian Criminal comes in and buys a team I can't see anyone outside the Top4 at a push ever winning it again, infact I can't ever see Liverpool winning it so it's a maximum of a 3 horse race. any league is boring when you know the Top 4 and the bottom 3 almost every season With figures like that it's becoming more and more of a closed shop and any team being promoted will struggle to stay in the league without putting the existence of the club on the line which is sad really. The rich get richer and all that
davieG Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 What strikes me as ironic is that you have top USA sports going out of their way to ensure a level playing field in order to heighten competition, in the NFL even profits from merchandise sales in the NFL are split evenly amongst the teams - this in a country where the by word is the survival of the fittest. Compare this to England where we have a tradition of fair play and you couldn't find a more uneven sporting contest and where the rich get richer and turn their noses up at the less well off clubs and yet they do nothing different to earn these outrageous competition spoiling riches.

Spot on. English football is falling over itself to steal every idea it can from American sport, apart from the equality of course.

The owners of the clubs/franchises in the States know it's not healthy for any one team or small group of teams to dominate competitions. That's why they have processes like player drafts and salary caps. But even if we wanted to go along that road, European and FIFA law wouldn't allow it.

European law wouldn't stop a club based salary cap and they certainly wouldn't stop all income being split evenly.
Number 6 Posted 27 May 2008 Posted 27 May 2008 Something certainly needs to be done. I did the BBC predictor for the championship and premiership just before christmas, at the end of the season I was 86 places out in the championship, and a mere 12 in the premiership. The top 3 are set in stone, L'pool 4th, Everton 5th, mini league of Villa, Man C, Blackburn, Spurs,West Ham, Portsmouth. Then a few teams slightly too good for relegation, Boro, Newcastle, S'land. And then the relegation scrap, which will involve at least 2 of the promoted teams, likely to be 3.
