davieG Posted 16 June 2008 Posted 16 June 2008 Who's record is similar to Ince but of course he's not a big name. From Wiki At the end of 2005, after the resignation of Turner as Stockport County manager, Gannon was appointed as caretaker manager whilst the club searched for a permanent replacement. However results improved enough during his short time at the club for him to be offered the job full time. Stockport were five points adrift of safety at the time[1], but he eventually guided the team to survival in the 2005–06 season. Improvements continued the following season, with Gannon leading County to a League record nine consecutive victories without conceding, and missing out on the League Two playoffs on goal difference. On his fifth visit to Wembley he guided Stockport to a 3-2 win over Rochdale in May 2008 to win promotion to Division One [3]. Gannon is a highly ambitous manager and is one of few managers in the lower leagues to hold a full UEFA Pro Licence[2].
ASH17LCFC Posted 16 June 2008 Posted 16 June 2008 We need someone who been there and done it before, getting him will just end up being Martin Allen all over again.

ASH17LCFC Posted 16 June 2008 Posted 16 June 2008 Promising start that gets wrecked before it's even begun? Exactly, just get JG in and atleast we don't expect anything but except to fail.
C-man Posted 16 June 2008 Posted 16 June 2008 I think it was Fez who mentioned him before they won their play-off final. I'd never heard of him before then but his man management skills are top. Just look at Liam Dickinson. From Woodley Sports to Wembley in 2 years!

Yeah I mentioned him a while back but he's plainly got more sense than to come here. This is the sort of man who should be top of our list though, not Ince, Worthington, Pearson, Gregory or Lambert.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Ooops I missed your post on this, but hey great minds and all that. Yeah I was just backing up what you're saying. Obviously it's mostly based on the play-offs as I didn't see anything of Stockport during the league season but they ticked a lot of boxes for me - a lot of young players especially in midfield with energy and drive, a strong, fairly quick targetman up front who can score goals and an attractive style of play. Like Manwell said in another thread last night though, Milan doesn't appear to have these kind of managers on his radar. It has to be someone controversial or a "big name". If I was Gannon's agent or advisor I'd be telling him not to even consider places like this though. If he finishes top six with Stockport again this season then he can look at a top Championship job where he might have some proper stability and backing.

Unfortunately he burnt his fingers with Allen and to some extent Holloway but he needs to realise that every category of manager includes potential failures and successes, most of all he needs to ask himself was he culpable in their failure or was it totally down to them - I think we know the answer. Now we're in Division 3 I think it's more appropriate and better longer term to go for a promising starter someone who knows this league or this level and will grow with us. It's not just a winning mentality we need but a League 1 mentality.

But if the previous managers who had "been there and done it" had been successful for us, we wouldn't be in our current state!
