Bryn Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 What are people's opinions on how long a player can be on the pitch to earn a rating? I need to set a value really - was thinking around the 15 or 20 minute mark. I think it's just subjective... I'd just allow subs to be rated 1 to 10 but just make it clear when the results are unveiled that substitutes have been ranked different because they had less time to make an impact. Think of it like Football Manager - when they're brought on they're a 6, if they do nothing wrong but make no impact they stay there/maybe drop a point.

syston_fox Posted 13 August 2008 Posted 13 August 2008 At least 15 minutes I think. Sounds about right. Unless they come on and make a meaningful contribution i.e. scores or gets sent off.

Ratings really concern a players impact on or contribution to a game as far as I am concerned. A player can make a worthwhile contribution over 90 minutes but do very little of headline significance whereas the 10-minute man I mentioned has had a matchwinning impact. I'd say everyone who steps onto the pitch is entitled to a rating based on the impact his presence had on the game.

From the next game onwards, I think I'll make all players available for a vote but if they haven't played more than 15 minutes, then I won't include their ratings in player of the month/season awards as it seems unfair that 5 minute cameos should affect their overall season performance. Does this seem ok?
