Simi Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Shame it couldn't of inspired him to take a decent corner though. Apart from that I think he had a solid game. Not always as direct as I'd like him to be with the ball but when he gets in and around the box he makes things happen which is good for us. He'll get better as the season goes on without doubt, providing he can keep his place.

I've mentioned elsewhere that he needs to vary pace and direction much more and that might well improve if he takes the idea of practising them as seriously as Sheehan used to. There's no doubt he can take a decent free-kick - particularly if he shoots as he's often shown in the reserves. But if he's going to be a specialist he's really got to put hours and hours into the groundwork.

We'll find out in time if he's going to improve them, but for now he needs to be taken off them because it was chance after chance yesterday wasted because of his poor deliveries. As you said, the direction was always the same, back post towards Morrison and it was dealt with way to easily by Stockport. I must admit, I can't really think of someone adequate enough to take them yet, something Pearson certainly needs to get work done on.

That sum's it up really although I wouldn't give up on King just yet. He's probably the best we've got in the club apart from Porter and the injured Beswick.

I dont see why Oakley cant take them either, he is technically a sound player, and can pass the ball, so i dont see why he cant do it on free kicks and corners.
Bryn Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 He didn't make it into the U21 squad this time, he's on standby though.

Clemence is the almost forgotten man. Oakley? I've never noticed him having a penchant for free kicks during his time here. It really is a specialist job the value of which seems to be grossly underestimated in our club but a job which is potentially worth several goals a season that we cannot afford to throw away.
