Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 looking at the table, i find it quite comforting, impressive even, to see that there are now only 7 teams within three wins of us and, i think, only two within a win of us (i stand to be corrected). whilst 3 wins is not impossible to claw back, against a team that has only lost 2 of 18 games, psychologically, it is bound to demotivate teams, perhaps even leading to complacency when playing us. if we can sustain this it is ever increasingly likely that more and more teams will become resigned to not catching us, even if it is at first subconscious.
kendalfox Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 So if we keep winning other teams will think we're so superior there's no point trying to beat us. Of course! It all makes sense. Wow, I'm learning so much every day about football on this forum, thanks guys.
maddog Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Early days yet, early days... 40% through the season already, id say we are past the early days. Before you know it, it will be the end of another season
Lillehamring Posted 26 November 2008 Author Posted 26 November 2008 So if we keep winning other teams will think we're so superior there's no point trying to beat us.Of course! It all makes sense. Wow, I'm learning so much every day about football on this forum, thanks guys. yeah - that's exactly what i said - i take it you have never studied the power of the unconscious mind, - of course teams won't stop trying: but, in the same way a team finds it hard to motivate when they know they are x amount of wins away from safety, teams are bound to be less motivated by the increasing unlikeliness of promotion and focus their efforts on teams they want to move away from and teams they are closest to overtaking. as i say, it won't necessarily be a conscious decision, but it is an important factor, and i mention it because it is now starting to look like a more significant gap. 3 wins is quite a large amount of points to make up, especially against a team that has only lost 2 league games all season. thus, the fact that there are (at this time) only 7 teams within three wins of us is a clear indication that, almost half way through the season the league is beginging to fragment and the number of teams that could potentially catch us is getting smaller. obviously the teams around the bottom will be focusing on survival, whilst the teams in the middle will, i'm sure, be sensing that maybe this isn't going to be their year and, yes, doubt and dropping confidence against a team like us will kick in. of course, it is possible that one or more teams may have a late surge and catch the top teams, but no doubt at the expense of one of the top teams stumbling. The Gap IS significant now - a three win cushion means that if we lose our next 3 games and every team down to 8th place win all their next three games, we'll still be in a strong position - and seeing as we are currently averaging a loss every 9 games, if the ship remains steady then it will come down to the top half dozen or so teams. naturally, this doesn't mean we have won the league, but i'm simply suggesting that we should feel that we are breaking away and that each game is a chance to lose more of the chasing pack, in the same way that ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal osv. do in the premiership.
kendalfox Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Oh dear, you didn't spot the sarcasm in my post. You're trying to argue that because we have a few points more than other teams that will stop them from trying to beat us. What tosh. And secondly both of your posts are so utterly pointless (no pun intended), having a few more points or a few less points than other teams is perfectly natural for any league based sport. What is so earth-shatteringly interesting about this that you felt you had to point it out? And for desserts, what exactly is 'significant' about our lead? S****horpe were in a similar position two weeks ago. It's not even Christmas. Blimey o'reilly, get a hobby/life/clue/job/laid (delete as applicable) Oh, you claim in your sig that 'explaining is just making life easier for stupid people' Irony isn't dead

Blimey o'reilly, get a hobby/life/clue/job/laid (delete as applicable) Oh, you claim in your sig that 'explaining is just making life easier for stupid people' Irony isn't dead um, yes i did spot the sarcasm in your post, in fact, that's all you did post, sarcasm (aka - the lowest form of wit) - if you are not interested, don't read it - simple as that. i would suggest that if you have nothing better to do than read and post in threads you have no interest or belief in, then you are the one who needs to take up one of your suggested pastimes. and, furthermore, you still haven't even grasped what i am saying - i am not saying that teams will stop trying to beat us - where do i say that? also, i didn't say our lead was significant, i said that the gap between us and midtable is becoming increasingly more significant. maybe you you would find more 'point' to the thread if you took the time to read it properly so you actually knew what my theory was, or would you like me to 'explain' it to you again*... *FYI - this is a proper ironic reference to my sig -
