City striker Ashley Chambers has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Walkers Stadium until June 2011.

The 18-year-old's current deal was due to run out in June next year, but he has today penned a new two-year extension.

The England Youth international made history on September 20, 2005 when, aged 15 years and 203 days, he became City's youngest ever first team player, taking the field as a substitute in the Foxes' Carling Cup second round win over Blackpool.

Chambers, another product of the Youth Academy, has continued to make steady progress and has to date made seven appearances for the first team.

Manager Nigel Pearson said: "Ashley is another promising young player who has been a little unlucky with injuries.

"But he's got that hunger and application to succeed and is certainly a player who is only going to continue to go from strength to strength."

Well the management clearly hold him in high regard here. It'd be nice to see him break into the first team eventually and get a spell in the first team.

Pearson is more optimistic than I am but good luck to the lad. It's time he got something to give him a lift.

If Fryatt goes, he's the man to step up I reckon.

I'd love to believe that. Just occasionally over four seasons I've seen Chambers at his best - and when he is he looks a very dangerous player.

He takes people on, picks out passes, has an eye for goal and has the speed to make holes in any defence - either for himself or for others.

But he's had a whole series of injuries.

And on his bad days he looks nothing like first team standard.

But that's the way with youngsters sometimes.

Already a few people are losing patience with Gradel and saying that Adams is better, Gradel can't do this and doesn't do that.

Well I've not lost faith and believe that were we ever daft enough to let him go, Gradel will have every bit as much impact as Stearman, and probably more.

I'd like to see Chambers and Fryatt up front, it worked pre-season when they were up front together, i really think its worth a chance.

Great news, just want the lad to go out on loan or something to gain more 1st team experiance.

I'm sure Martin Allen will take him for a while.

Nothing specifically against the idea but in what way did it work?

As far as I can see Ashley Chambers is down as having made five first team appearances and has yet to score.

Probably worked in the "I'd rather play Conrad Logan upfront than Howard kind of way"

And for those thousands that couldn't be bothered today, Howard had an excellent game

Problem with Chambers is speed seems to be a big part of his game, one of his major attributes?

The big question with persistent injuries is how much of that running time is taken away. I've a friend that players semi-pro rugby and was at one time on the fringes of the Premiership. He recently suffered a horrible leg break but has recently come back and run his personal best in the 100m.

But it doesn't always go like that. Interesting to see Chambers injury free for a while and see what impact it's all had on him, really.

He was interested earlier in the season.

But league rules stop Cheltenham from borrowing any more of our players.
