To be honest with you, I think your just being musically ignorant for a change like so many people are over slipknot you see there image and don't like it, as for the technicality bit if you tried to learn a slipknot song you would soon see its a hella lot more technical than you think, nowhere near as good.. just going on a massive 6 month world tour nearly selling out every arena to be fair you need to get yourself a slipknot album get yourself a bit of a backbone listen to it and say what you really think instead of being a sheep following the crowd and assessing there music on there image..I'm sure you listen to indie music. I went to watch them sunday night in birmingham and they were fooking awesome no ifs no buts technically sound and vocally none of this 3 chord shit with a silly effect on it.. viva la slipknot! :P

firstly i am not being musically ignorant, i like pretty much every genre from classical to black metal and that is alot of different music. it is not their image i do not like it is the music i do not like, people also get in such a complex defending them from any critisism and try to change other people's opinions. i learnt a slipknot song, it took me 15 minutes to be playing duality smoothly ( i have played guitar for pretty much my entire life). i have a slipknot album and i absolutely hate it, it is disgraceful. Ska bands have gone all over the world and sold out every venue they play at but it doesn't make them infallable to critisism. as to the indie music? i have recommended people on this thread to listen to bands like in flames and opeth, who are death metal and melodeath bands from sweden, i have recently been to see slayer live and i have seen all sorts of technically brilliant metal bands who have such a passionate following, the thing is though, that even their passionate fans will take on board that some people don't like and have critisisms of their favourite band. i have seen slipknot twice (music festivals) and was left thoroughly disapointed both times, i had a group of friends go to the gig at the NIA and thought they were dreadful. as for the three chord stuff, i said i had learnt duality and their ain't too many different chords in that i can tell you.

as to why i analyse the songs, firstly i have been a musician for most of my life, i am also a sound/lighting engineer so song composition is an interesting thing to me.

by the way - Sheep, you are calling me that for going against the most commercialised metal band ever with a reasoning

I don't care about the technical ability of a band if I like their tunes, and conversely, I know people that have seen them live and said they were incredible.

I appreciate that your posts may have come across wrongly but the constant criticism of their "technical ability" does whiff a bit of snobbery.

i apologise if it seems like snobbery but with music i generally prefer hearing a bit of flair in it rather than alot of songs sounding seemingly generic

See, all of In Flames records sound the same to me.

Guess it depends on what you listen for.

Don't get me started, lad, don't get me started...

Nothing wrong with the guy that's singing, but the first guy is just plain shouting.

Indeed but it works well with AOF, I sort of moved on from that whole genre but still enjoy a bit of AOF :yesyes:

I just listened to a bit of My Chemical Romance... and enjoyed it.

Not worthy of a new thread so thought I'd put it in here.

But in reference to me enjoying My Chemical Romance...

No it's not, singer is a very very talented singer. Have a listen http://www.myspace.com/dallasgreen

 With City and Colour, Green's side project I think, he showcases his voice. He's really good.
