7.00pm at the Walkers.

Academy Manager Jon Rudkin knows that City's starlets are in for a tough test against Wolves in the FA Youth Cup third round at the Walkers Stadium tonight (7pm).

The Foxes have already overcome Port Vale and MK Dons.

He said: "We have our youngest side for five or six seasons but the players have responded and are enjoying the challenge.

"Every club wants to do well in this competition but Wolves will a different challenge.

"They are older and physically bigger than us so we will look at our game plan accordingly."

Prices on the evening are: £3 for adults and £1 concessions.

Unlikely leaders at half-time, Leicester City tumbled out of the FA Youth Cup by 3-2 at The Walkers tonight, courtesy of a better Wolves team and a clumsy own goal by centre back Cian Bolger.

If 3-2 suggests a nail-biter it wasn't. Wolves might have scored six or seven and on specific occasions they ripped City to shreds. But City, for all their limitations, had enough organisation to make a commendable fight of it, with first half goals by Nathan Hicks and Tom Parker even giving us a 2-1 lead at the break and slim hopes of a victory.

Wolves had taken the lead on 23 minutes with a header at the far post by James Davis after a Scott Malone corner.

But four minutes before the break, City were rewarded for their determination and persistence when Craig King teed the ball up for Nathan Hicks to crack a fine 25 yarder in the right corner with the visiting goalkeeper barely able to move before the ball flashed past him.

Wolves' assurance wavered and even more so on the stroke of halftime when what I believe was a Jorrin John free-kick was perfectly placed onto the head of centre-back Tom Parkes who gleefully gobbled up a near replica of Wolves opener to give City the lead.

Generally City's much younger side had coped well but Wolves had sounded warnings of their ability with three or four moves which had cut the City defence to pieces and only been ruined by poor finishing.

After the break City predictably tried to protect their lead by getting men behind the ball and just as predictably it didn't work.

Wolves ever dangerous right winger Sam Winnall ghosted past City left-back Liam Moore and cracked his shot cum centre towards the far post where it seemed to get a deflection on its way into the net.

Though they never gave up, the goal effectively sounded the end of City's gallant resistance. Wolves gained control of midfield. They started to find time on the ball and there was only going to be one conclusion.

It almost came when Wolves centre-forward Ashley Hemmings was foiled by Ambrusics saving at his feet when the striker was right through on his own.

In the end though it was a simple low cross into the penalty area from the left which did for Leicester. Centre-half Bolger had time to do a number of things but, presumably he got no call and, whatever, his reactions were slow and his decision making poor because he simply turned the ball into his own net when not really being immediately threatened.

It wasn't his first howler this season and for me reflected, yet again, the problem City have in relying on with big, strong, aerial defenders when the need so often is for someone fast and decisive at the back.

Not that Bolger's error was the only reason for defeat. Liam Moore was taken apart at times at left-back and Wolves had splendid midfield and attacking ball-players in Hemmings, Davis and Bennett as well as plenty of pace and directness on the flanks.

City always knew they were up against it and, with no Sappleton, Kee or Cox their task wasn't made any easier. But they chased, competed, scored a couple of goals and, for an hour or so did well enough to knock some of the swagger out of Wolves who had two or three players who I'm sure will soon be seen in League football.

How was Jorrin?

He found himself competing with some skilled footballers tonight and didn't really stand out. Some neat touches and an assist but Wolves denied time and space to all the City players and John was no exception).

Have we got an injury crisis or something? That Schlupp that came off the bench is only 15.

Doesn't surprise me. I'd never seen him, that's for sure. As mentioned, significant Academy players like Kee, Sappleton and Lee Cox were missing meaning our team looked lightweight from the off. I didn't see them around either.

That's not to be sure they weren't there but they weren't even on the bench and I didn't get chance to ask why, though, as RM87 pointed out, I imagined they were either too old or injured. Adam Veasey and Joe Cobb I knew to be injured.

you've got to ask questions of our recruitment process. They've known about this poor batch for some time.

I don't understand this. They are about 4th in the league and reached as far in the FA Youth Cup than we have done in the previous 3 seasons. The thing is the league-winning team have reached 19 and over and can no longer represent, so up come the next lot who are probably the academy equilvant of first-year scholars but you're looking at lads of 15 and 16. I suppose it's because of the abolishment of the Under 16 academy level.

Youth football is almost always cyclical. And the group we had a couple of seasons back were exceptional. The new crop aren't doing so badly. And we've lost to far worse teams in the FA Youth Cup even with our team of two/three years ago. If yesterday's side was anything to go by, Wolves look fair set for the future.
