breadandcheese Posted 21 December 2008 Posted 21 December 2008 I'd say there was tbh. No need for the foot to be up that high. When you're running to a ball and a player's coming from the opposite side of the ball, it's very difficult to get the ball under control and shield it without putting your foot over the top of the ball. The fact that there is doubt in many minds to me says that the ref should not send him off. For my mind, a red (be it through second yellow or straight red) should only be issued when absolutely sure.

He's gone way over the ball and he could have even put his foot behind the ball, Arbeloa was actually quite far from the ball when he caught him. The fact he's done it once and got a booking meant he should have learnt. Certainly no doubt in my mind.

The fact he's done it once and got a booking meant he should have learnt. Certainly no doubt in my mind. It's easy to say but difficult to do when you're running at the ball with full momentum. Try shifting your body weight, keeping the ball and shielding the it strongly all from the starting position of running full pelt towards the ball. Hoddle was making the point that he's been booked for it once so shouldn't do it again. The first booking, in my opinion was the most ridiculous out the two, so to not do it again is almost endorsing the poor refereeing decision. I still maintain the fact that a red should only be produced if absolutely certain. Football fans up and down the country are having the same debate. That to me says it is uncertain.
Alexikokopops Posted 22 December 2008 Posted 22 December 2008 One thing I did notice was the noise created when castigating the referee after the sending-off. Why can't the Arses get behind their team with the same level of vocality? You obviously weren't at Arsenal Reserves against Portsmouth Reserves last Tuesday. HE CAME TO US WHEN HENRY LEFT, EDDIE EDDIE HE'S SCORE MORE GOALS THAN DARREN BENT, EDDIE EDDIE HE BROKE HIS LEG BUT HE'LL SOON BE FIT AND DARREN BENT WILL STILL BE SHIT, EDUARDO DA SILVA, ARSENAL NUMBER NINE
Fez of Mahrez Posted 22 December 2008 Posted 22 December 2008 You obviously weren't at Arsenal Reserves against Portsmouth Reserves last Tuesday. Yeah. Calls himself a Leicester fan? Part-timer. Loved the hostility yesterday. And Van Persie's goal was Goal of the Season so far.
Alexikokopops Posted 22 December 2008 Posted 22 December 2008 Yeah. Calls himself a Leicester fan? Part-timer.Loved the hostility yesterday. And Van Persie's goal was Goal of the Season so far. Exactly, true Leicester fans would pop down Barnet on a Tuesday night to watch Arsenal reserves. Sort it out Corky I enjoyed both goals yesterday. Got to love the simple HOOF from Agger.

Alexikokopops Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 Ferk off, I am a real fan, I went to all the Wembley finals But that's not Arsenal Reserves on a Tuesday night in Barnet! SORT IT OUT
DB11 Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 If Adebayor had not received two yellow cards and got sent off, would anyone be complaning about either of the bookings? No. The fact that he did two of those challenges, resulting in a red card, is the only reason people are discussing it. As there wouldn't be any discussion if there was just the one I think that proves it was the correct decision.
Corky Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 But that's not Arsenal Reserves on a Tuesday night in Barnet! SORT IT OUT So you can only be a real fan if you go to Arsenal Reserves in Barnet on a Tuesday night?
Alexikokopops Posted 23 December 2008 Posted 23 December 2008 So you can only be a real fan if you go to Arsenal Reserves in Barnet on a Tuesday night? FACT EDUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAARDO, EDUUUUUUUUUUUUAAAAAAAAAARDO
