Flynny Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 I really like it. It's fun. It's not making a statement. It's been slammed for being too samey everywhere I've looked so far but I really, really like it, more so than the others so far in fact.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 Is it out yet? I've not being paying attention
hairy Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 Only given it a couple of listens and I cant say it grabs me by the balls
Bellend Sebastian Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 They shouldn't have cancelled their sessions with Xenomania
Lovejoy Posted 19 January 2009 Posted 19 January 2009 Only heard Ulysses so far but really liked that. Have to say that when I saw them at Reading '06 they were brilliant live.
Chromophobia Posted 22 January 2009 Posted 22 January 2009 Loved their debut when it came out. But my interest in them has petered out, the second album was a bit 'ehh'
The People's Hero Posted 22 January 2009 Posted 22 January 2009 I'm not sure I can stand them anymore. Very much a thing of the moment and that moment has passed.

Yeah, both of those posts are close to how I feel... I really loved their debut; I thought it was one of the best pop albums (or perhaps rather rock-derived album that went big on the mainstream charts) to have come out in a long time, and tbh, I think it still is one of the best pop albums of the decade even if I don't listen to it nearly as much as I used to. How many bands that came out since then (or bands that were around that changed their sound) started doing the whole dancy discoish hi-hat beat after FF went big?. But nothing on their sophomore effort really caught my attention. It might even be a shame that I'm not really excited about this album because I don't recall Franz Ferdinand really doing anything that either sucked or pissed me off. I'm sure I'll have a listen to this one, but it can be strange sometimes how certain music can have a short shelf life.
Flynny Posted 24 January 2009 Author Posted 24 January 2009 Possibly because they've left it a bit long, and their albums aren't really 'substantial', if you know how I mean, however good a Franz song is it's never epoch-changing. I get it. Good album though. Best I can describe it is 'chunkier'.
