leftsideoverhere Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Now thats quality. Can't quite imagine the family stand joining in like that. If only...
Floating Fox Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 Yeah but if you take a 7 quid an hour job which involves ruining a lot of peoples' saturday afternoon, you've got to be able to take criticism. Also it depends whether you're a jobsworth crerin or not. Every steward, in every seated ground in England officially has the task of getting people to sit down. Some couldn't give a fook if you stood on your seat doing windmills with your dong . Others seem to get their jollies from the power of being to harrass a few people and don't leave you alone for 90 minutes. Or you could be like the Swindon Steward who flagged our chavs before offering them out and then being escorted out the stadium by his coleagues!
Lovejoy Posted 24 March 2009 Posted 24 March 2009 I've got a mate who's a steward and he says he's always willing to let fans stand. However if someone behind them complains, he says he has to tell them to sit down or else if he's reported he'll lose his job. He reckons a lot (not all) of stewards love the banter, but the threat of losing their jobs makes them seem harsh.

I would have some sympathy if they were making a full time living from being a steward however I think they earn £25 per match? not really much of a job to loose is it?

Kilworthfox Posted 25 March 2009 Posted 25 March 2009 Maybe not for you but they might need it. £575 over the course of 12 months is not going to get you very far. However if they are more interested in a free ticket I can understand that more.
BoneDog Posted 26 March 2009 Posted 26 March 2009 Left side/right side is a bit of a gay song unless it's towards the end of a match and we're havin a party cos we 2,3 or 4 up if you ask me. Loved it at Cheltenham away near end of match. But to sing it at the start as people seem to keep doin is stupid. Looking across the terrace at eachother and not the players aint right. Early chanting should all be directed to supporting the lads on the pitch and firing em up. If I was a player and after 5 minutes I saw the fans looking at eachother singin left side... I'd think 'what the uck is that shit'. It's a party-time song and nothin more

davieG Posted 26 March 2009 Author Posted 26 March 2009 Thanks for all the comments on singing East Stand / South Stand instead of left side / right side made for really interesting and enlightening reading

James. Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 The players couldn't give a flying **** what the fans are doing. I think that's bollocks.
Floating Fox Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 I think that's bollocks. Well as long as their not running onto the pitch or hurling rocks at the players (Or shooting them If you live in Iraq!) then I really doubt most of them could care if you all sat their in silence or jumped up and down like Turks all game.

I'm pretty sure vociferous support contributes to a team's performance. An example that springs to mind was Barnsley away last year. Immense support surely contributed to a 1-0 win. It was a scrappy game that could easily have gone either way but the level of noise from our end I would like to think gave us the edge and pushed the players on. Pearson, Mandaric and the players, for the most part, seem to appreciate our support, particularly away from home. Like El Empty says I'd rather hear even just the "Leicester Leicester Leicester" chant then the right side left side song if I was a player. I'd be more likely to react to that.

They are hardly going to come out and say it's naff are they. Look how bad Mandy got slated when he, rightly, spoke his mind on our horrific home support. And if you think the interviews with players when they say "the support was fantastic" or "The fans were the 12th man, lets see you out for xxxx at home next week) isn't manipulated then you are more naive than I thought!

I understand where you're coming from and all, but in my opinion I don't think the vast majority of our players could give a shit about what we're doing as fans. As long as we applaud them for scoring, don't abuse them, don't boo and don't actually physcially assault them, they'll be happy. At our club I don't really feel an affinity towards most of our players, mainly because I get the impression they don't care anything like they should about our club. Aside from Howard and Chris Powell, and perhaps Kerrea Gilbert and Andy King, I doubt I'd miss any of our current crop if they disappeared. There's no real sense of belonging to the club demonstrated by the players. After the majority of games I've seen this season it's been half-arsed or no applause to the fans after the game. As with Mad Mandy, of course he loves the fans. Who the hell will provide him the sustained income of he chastises them every other week?!?

Tommeh Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Howard, Berner, Powell, Kingy and Oakley always seem to appreciate the fans support after aways win, loose or draw and I think the team as a whole this season has recognised the fans 10 times more than seasons gone. The amount of times the likes of Hume, McAuley etc. Trundled off after playing dire without acknowledging the fans who'd traveled 200 odd miles and spent 50 odd quid was discraceful. This has been something for me that I really feel Pearson has drilled into the players. Although as to whether the support really affects players mentallity and performance is anyones guess.

I'm not talking about post match interviews or press releases by Mandaric. I'm talking about the players coming over at the end of a game and looking genuinely appreciative for the support, at least they do to me. I don't think I'm being naive when I say the players react to noise from the crowd. Why the **** do we bother singing if it's not to urge the team on and get a reaction? I'm actually quite surprised you seem to think the players don't give a shit about the support. Personally I think that's more naive than what I'm saying. For someone who constantly bangs on about amazing fans (not Leicester ones obviously!) and amazing atmospheres I find it odd that you should take the stance that the players don't give a shit. It seems pretty obvious that they do, maybe not as much at Leicester as some clubs but it's still there. That's fair enough. I stand by what I say though. I think the fans do make a difference. If they don't then there's not much point going to games is there really.

I think the fans can make a difference but there's a minimum level of noise (support) when that will happen and we rarely see that level reached at home. I do feel that the actual songs/words that are sung make very little if any difference unless they are of a derogatory nature. It's all to do with volume, which is all to do with numbers, a few singing an appropriate song in the Kop will not have as much impact as the whole ground singing a load of bollocks.
