demon_dog Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Bloody work! How dare they, I am abroad on a business trip and am due to arrive back into EMA at 14.15 Sat 4th April. City kick off against Carlisle at 15.00. The question is assuming the flight is on time, can I make it from the airport to the stadium in time for kick off? I don't think so, say half an hour from the plane landing to get back to the car park. Drive down the motorway to Markfield, then into the City, find somewhere to park and get to the ground. Got to be at least another 30+ mins. Suspect I'll get to the match about 3.45. Anyone else been in a similar situation and what did you miss of the game?

I made it to a game half an hour late earlier on this season.

I personally would take just hand luggage with me, and then either have a kind and willing friend waiting for me outside the terminal, or get a taxi (could you claim this back on expenses....) direct to the WS. That's what I would do.
Corky Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 New Year's Day 2002, we were at home to Arsenal in an evening kick-off, about 5.30 I think, and I was on the train. We were delayed at Peterborough, and it meant that we were panicking thinking we would miss the first half. We eventually got into Leicester at 5.40, and ran to the ground from the train station, only to find, as we got there, no noise and no floodlights on. I went to the shop near the ground and was told the match had been postponed. Frustration and relief were my feelings.
JoeyB Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Depending who you are with (company) its doable. Like Lisa said if you get some one waiting their and checking : http://www.eastmidlandsairport.com/EMAFlightInfo/ to make sure when the flight is landed it is doable. aslong as you only take hand luggage and no suitcases, because suitcases are the bits that will slow you down majorly.
Sir Fynwy Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 I've had to make a few dashes from airports to matches because of work commitment, including a dash to Steve Walshes testimonial which meant arriving at the ground in a suit and tie, got some funny looks in SK1 that night. It's probably doable but EMA is mainly low cost flights which tend to start running late later in the day.
Bert Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Last season, I returned from Magaluf to Coventry ( ) airport at 1.10 pm and still made it to the Sheff Weds home game.
Unit Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 I've done this before and made it, make sure you have somebody picking you up though as getting to your car in the carpark takes roughly 4 weeks.

Bert Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Coventry airport is about the size of a mushroom! This is true. I bet you've had bigger mushrooms.
General Smuts Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Thanks to the M25 i missed the Colchester game this season. I turned around when it was looking like i wouldn't make it till half time and was told the ticket office was closed. I'd only bought the ticket that morning. Wankstain.
Tommeh Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 I'd say it's doable. Just. Like others have said if you have to wait for cases and shit you will be struggling to make KO but the airport to WS could be done in 20 mins if you kill it. I Landed at Gatwick from Turkey at about 8:30am last year, drove back to Leics for 12, nipped on here, found out we had a friendly at Kettering then managed to get a lift to Rockingham Road with time to spare.

EMA is mainly low cost flights and the majority (90%) of them arrive earlier than scheduled. and they run all through the day.
philce Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 EMA is mainly low cost flights and the majority (90%) of them arrive earlier than scheduled.and they run all through the day. Id agree with that statement, Ryanair actually allow extra time in the flight for slight delays, (2 hr flight is published as 2.30 normally) Depending on where you park (I normally use 4 I think, its behind the Ryanair/Easyjet check in tent/extension, but NOT bookable online), no hand baggage and dont queue to pay for parking and use a CCard at the exit barrier then its possible to get back to Leicester within 40 mins from touchdown! I have done this several times! It will be easier to get someone to collect you and drop you off at WS. The biggest prob will be parking!!!!

Was flying back to Birmingham from Dublin due to land at 7.20pm for the 7.45pm evening kick-off. Straight off the plane - baggage reclaim was waiting for me (sweet!!) - then out of the airport and stormed up the M69 to Leicester. Made it to the ground at half time only to find it hard to get into the bloody ground - went to my normal turnstile to no-one there, was told that late entries were by turnstile 16 only to find no-one there!! In the end had go and talk to a fella having a fag outside the end of stand door and he slid me in and through the back door into the concourse. Of course with such a storming 2nd half v Stockport, it was all made worth it Pouring it down with rain that night aswell if you remember so was thinking all the way from the airport "What am I doing?!!" But would still do it all again .........................
demon_dog Posted 27 March 2009 Author Posted 27 March 2009 Thanks to you all for your helpful advise. Firstly take no luggage only hand baggage. Get someone to wait for me and take me directly to WS. Park the car in Car park 4 and pay on exit using your CC. I should get to the ground before kick off. If I'm late, approaching halftime, I can't get in!
Filbert_Ross Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 just go pub instead and count your blessings you didnt go the match.
demon_dog Posted 27 March 2009 Author Posted 27 March 2009 Miss a game! Whoever heard of such a thing, shame on you.
dandannieldanok Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 Sorry to be a doom monger but I think it's practically impossible, from the outskirts of Leicester to the WS it would take a while in the traffic which is always horrible on a Saturday (never mind potential flight delays + getting through arrivals before that). Hope you get there in time.

JoeyB Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 I've got in after half an hour with no fuss before There should be designated turn styles in each section that stay open up untill end of the first half.
Sir Fynwy Posted 27 March 2009 Posted 27 March 2009 EMA is mainly low cost flights and the majority (90%) of them arrive earlier than scheduled.and they run all through the day. I look at the airline data and generally the low costers end up between 75% and 85% 'ontime', but that's just statistics, if you arrive 14.55 mins late you are still ontime in the airlines opinion. Ryan Air, Easyjet and BMIbaby only allow 30 mins on the ground between flights so any hold ups end up in flights running late. I'd never rely on an airline running ontime for something I was planning so tight a schedule on. The club claims you can get in until half-time but it is not easy as all the turnstile operators disappear, I've had a few occasions where I've had to run around the stadium trying to find someone to let me in.

I thought we'd paid them all off as well.......
