Ultra Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Bopara has got to be in Ashes squad surely . As he's one of only FIVE England batsmen to score centuries in three consecutive Tests, I'd imagine so.
Corky Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 This just enforces how poor we were in the Carribean. They are an awful, negative team full of average players (with the odd exception). Also, why is there a nightwatchman in? Can Pietersen not cope with the West Indies bowling late in the day?
Brainy Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 This just enforces how poor we were in the Carribean. Us or the pitches?

Looked like they were giving Anderson a bit of a working over though from what I saw...

Ultra Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Am I the only one who thinks Gayle has said what he said because he can't be bothered to lead his useless team mates? Most of them anyway. He and a few others look like they'd rather be in South Africa playing in the IPL. They're not enjoying this tour, that's for sure.
Corky Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 He and a few others look like they'd rather be in South Africa playing in the IPL. They're not enjoying this tour, that's for sure. How can you tell when Gayle IS motivated though? The only one who looks genuinely fired up is Edwards. They are a stand-in team for the Sri Lankans, who lost most of their squad to the IPL. Would their reserves have given us a tougher series?
RowlattsFox Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 We criticised the pitches in the West Indies and then we serve up a pitch like this, absolutely nothing in it. England just need to get a huge total and hope the pitch gets worst on the last couple of days.

I'll wait until some decent bowlers have had a go...
Milky Posted 15 May 2009 Posted 15 May 2009 Bopara has been dropped four or perhaps five times during that run of centuries. Funny old game.
purpleronnie Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 Hopefully if the weather holds we can win the match. Trying to catch as much as I can by listening and catching the odd highlight clips online. Good performances all round but I'm not convinced by bresnan, I know its a little early to tell, but he's not in the side for his batting skills and looks pretty average bowler and certainly wouldnt scare the aussies much.
Ultra Posted 17 May 2009 Posted 17 May 2009 Bresnan's only in the side as a stand-in for Flintoff. Once he's fit again, he'll return to the team. Otherwise the side playing at the moment will be the one starting in Cardiff (!) on 8 July.

Otherwise the side playing at the moment will be the one starting in Cardiff (!) on 8 July. Yes but we now have a problem if Flintoff is not fit. Strauss doesn't trust Bresnan enough as a bowler to be one of our 4 frontline seamers. It would upset the balance of the side if we were throw in a genuine bowler or a genuine batsmen. (We are making up for the fact we only have 5 batsmen by including a long decentish lower order). I think we might see a little bit of Adil Rashid or Sam Patel between now and the Ashes...

Collingwood.
purpleronnie Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Well seems bresnan bowled well today . The commentators kept mentioning that the West Indies players weren't interested...maybe too cold for them.
Corky Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Very easy series win but have we learnt a lot from it? For the Ashes, the only change I'd expect is Flintoff for Bresnan.
dandannieldanok Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 Very easy series win but have we learnt a lot from it?For the Ashes, the only change I'd expect is Flintoff for Bresnan. The only thing learnt is that the Windies are feeble opposition when away from home comforts. Fair play to England though, you can only beat what's in front of you. Anderson has been superb.
Ultra Posted 18 May 2009 Posted 18 May 2009 He's improved a lot in the last two years. Not sure whether he's strong enough yet to trouble the Aussies, though.
