He is, without doubt, one of the best song writers and poets of modern times.

"It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe

It don't matter, anyhow

An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe

If you don't know by now

When your rooster crows at the break of dawn

Look out your window and I'll be gone

You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on

Don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe

That light I never knowed

An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe

I'm on the dark side of the road

Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say

To try and make me change my mind and stay

We never did too much talkin' anyway

So don't think twice, it's all right

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal

Like you never did before

It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal

I can't hear you any more

I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road

I once loved a woman, a child I'm told

I give her my heart but she wanted my soul

But don't think twice, it's all right

I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe

Where I'm bound, I can't tell

But goodbye's too good a word, gal

So I'll just say fare thee well

I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind

You could have done better but I don't mind

You just kinda wasted my precious time

But don't think twice, it's all right"

:)

"May God bless and keep you always,

May your wishes all come true,

May you always do for others

And let others do for you.

May you build a ladder to the stars

And climb on every rung,

May you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,

May you grow up to be true,

May you always know the truth

And see the lights surrounding you.

May you always be courageous,

Stand upright and be strong,

May you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,

May your feet always be swift,

May you have a strong foundation

When the winds of changes shift.

May your heart always be joyful,

May your song always be sung,

May you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young."

Genius. :worship:

I am 42. My music tastes cover a wide range. I like everything but Country & Western and modern Jazz. I have albums recorded in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s to today. To say todays music wont be listened to in 45 years is utter bollox. I think if you dig around a bit you will find plenty of music you too would like from todays huge array of music. They still make music that doesn't get in the charts you know.

Screwdriver were a punk band from the 80s used to enroll / front the what was then National Front.

I just dont like Dylan. End of.

My original post was more about the realisation that I agreed with ASH than not liking Dylan.

No problem with anyone not liking Dylan, or even 60s music. However I stick by my view that todays music WILL be dead and buried in forty five years time. It will be mostly forgotten in ten years time, Just soooooo forgetable, but the sound of the sixties will role on.

Im guessing you only listen to stuff which you are told to listen to i.e. on the radio etc. I can see your point if your basing it on throwaway crap marketed pop etc but you can't class all music that is made today under the same breath. There is so much music out there you have to dig deep my friend.

Im sure there loads of music from the sixties which is long and forgotten now. Obviously the better and good music will still be around, just how it is no matter what decade it is released.

this is a pretty specious argument, to be honest... there is an awful lot of music from the 60s that is not played, an awful lot - in 40/50 years time some music will be played from the modern era - the cream always rises to the top.

you could apply the same logic to dylan and compare him to, say JS Bach - will they still be playing 'mr tambourine man' in 200 years :dunno:

comparing 60s music with modern music is like saying stanley matthews is better then ronaldo - you can't compare them. because of digitisation and computers and websites like myspace, there is no absolute need now to have a record label, at least not a major one that makes all bands sound like each other... people are listening to the music they want to now, rather than what is shoved under there noses.

if you really wasnt to see how good modern music can be, don't listen to the radio - trawl places like myspace, last.fm or IACmusic - it's all out there, but people are doing it for themselves these days, so exposure is less, choice is greater.

if you are dangerous, mr tiger - take your 'creme brulee' shades off and find the music thats define our lives today

beach boys fan, 36, oslo.

Very amusing. I do so love a good laugh. If todays music does define our lives , then it does go some way to explaining why there are so many morons around. No skill required, no talent either, and to call it MUSIC. Ho! Ho! Ho!

Ninety per cent rubbish, but yes there are some good artists around, I suppose. Cant name any though Glad youre a Beach Boys fan. They were superb.

My step daughter is 18, and forever plays her music, when shes home, as well as having todays material, blaring out from her radio. So yes, I hear plenty of it. I take your point and appreciate it, but what I hear lacks quality. Too much reliance on electronic gadgetry, and no great talented musicians out there

you're taking rubbish to be honest I love Dylans music probably the best lyricist ever even though at times I could shove that Harmonica right up his....

but as an example the 70's and 80's were on the surface full of some terrible terrible music but it's still popular for example appearing soon at the Nottingham Arena are...

Rick Astley, Kim Wilde, Howard Jones, Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Altered Images, Hazel O’Connor and Brother Beyond

they charge nearly £40.00 a ticket in a venue that can told over 12000 people!!!

those artists were terrible one hit wonders but are still popular 25 years after they first appeared because people can relate the music to moments in their life.

70's nights are still massive up and down the country even though some of the music is utter rubbish.

it's all about nostalgia and peoples memories, once your generation has passed on the next will take over the soundtrack to the next generation will be different as the music of the time is reflected in the memories people have.

I like a massive range of music from Woody Guthrie & Robert Johnson to The Clash, Lee Scratch Perry through to Coldcut. DJ Shadow and so on good music isn't confined to one period in time every year has good music and every decade has some utter shite including the 60's

Even though your argument is laughable and illogical I totally agree with this.

I do love my sixties music, and have over 200 C.D.s. I also like being controversial and getting folk going. Its good fun too.

I mostly agree, and of course there was some awful music in the sixties. However, taking it decade by decade, since, the general standard and talent, has diminished rapidly.

I just hate narrow-minded people.

I think there's been terrific music in every generation but there's also been some utter guff. You go through life believing nothing's going to better the 60s and you're just shooting yourself in the foot and denying yourself some great stuff on the way.

I love Dylan, I really do, and Neil Young, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and any number of old classic artists but that doesn't mean they'll never be matched.

To say there are no contemporary musicians who will be remembered in fourty years time is stupid. I am by no means a Marilyn Manson fan - but if you think he's going to just disappear then you're seriously naive. Nor will Oasis, Blur, Metallica or whoever. Because my generation will carry these artists on and on like those before me kept Springsteen or Iron Maiden in their hearts and their parents pushing Dylan and Cash records to this day.

I thought a passionate music lover from the sixties would be listening to vinyl. Ironic that your listening to your beloved classics on an eighties format.

Don't worry your not getting me going it's all good discussion.

I can't stand Dylan. I'm in the massively overrated, annoying voice and lyrics that mean nothing to me camp. That's not to say anyone could have a different view (before I get yelled at for not seeing it the same way others do).

Music from different eras can't really be compared as being better then another because the decades are so different themselves. The things that concerned Dylan in the 60s bare no relation to the somewhat nihilistic 80s types. Also, as technology progresses so new sounds can be made and to say one sound is better then another because it's strummed, bashed or created through computers is daft. Different tools mean that musicians have to be creative in different ways and with no one buying cds and the saturation of the online market it's just as hard if not more so to get noticed, breeding more creativity (if less money).

Whereas previously there was too much reliance on pentatonic scales, the same 1 3 5 chord progression and lyrics about the opposite sex. Done with a bit of flair these things can be ace but mostly the're just tools for the lazy songwriter. Like electronic gadgetry.

Exactly. Bang on.

As for Dylan, I was passed down some records from my Dad, and some memories of him are kept alive through listening to Dylan. But that isn't my reason for liking him, I think the mind of the man is genuis. You just can't figure him out and neither will he let you. I would like to sit in his brain for the day.

Genius.

Well, actually I have some 300 plus original 45s, and some 50 L.P.s from the sixties, and I do listen to them a fair bit. But it is far to play C.D.s. Now, here is your chance! Wow, I play old stuff on todays plasic. Slap my hand, Im a bad old lad.:rolleyes:

Live performances must be bloody dreadful then.

And yet from what I've read in almost all of your posts you've belittled most things that happened outside your golden era of the 60s

You are obviously a seriously naive character, who knows nothings about the huge 60s spectrum. Feel so sorry for you, but like most of todays young Mr. Averidge, know nought about ought when it comes to quality Have you ever heard Ruperts People, Orange Bicycle, Ministry of Sound, to just start the list. NO you havent. Their records were not hits, but their musical skill was out of this world.

You are 100% correct my friend. Been there, seen it , done it, heard it. Thats why I know what I am talking about. That is why I am so correct in all I say. Knowledge is truly a wonderful thing, and I have it all. :chant::chant::chant::chant:
