DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 After 38 rears Bob Dylan comes straight in at number one in the album charts. It is not surprising. Sixties music has always been the best (statistics and common sense prove it) Thus it will remain for all time. PROUD TO HAVE BEEN A PART OF THE SCENE.

No offense but who pays attention to the album charts? With enough money and the right PR team anyone can go to number 1. Doesn't mean that its the best album at the moment. I love the music which is coming out now and im so glad to be part of the electronic music scene. Everyone will always think that music from there time was the best, just fond memories I suppose.

You may be right but I still feel 18 and have EXPERIENCED the music since. Rember what I said? Statistics PROVE me to be right, so happily I have nothing more to prove. However, if you had lived the era, I am sure you would feel the same. Anyway, enjoy your "music". Rember, though that the so called electronic scene projects talentless so called musicians.

(do you have a web page for your music?)

purpleronnie Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Great album and not just that his recent Modern Life was great, not bad for a 60+ year old. I doubt we'll see another artist like dylan. I get frustrated in todays war ravaged world there isnt another dylan stepping up, it still seems to be the old guard producing the protest albums, dylan, springsteen, bragg. Where are the rebels these days? Theres more to music than Radio 1 and X Factor!

Where are the rebels these days? Theres more to music than Radio 1 and X Factor! no one wants to rock the boat, and besides the only people still buying singles are 9-year old girls. i'm sure there are artists out there who have something to say, trouble is none of them seem to have the commercial appeal of dylan. i think another thing is the bono-factor, ie singers are affraid to be outspoken in case they come across as sanctimonious hypocrites.
purpleronnie Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 Yes I think thats true, seems most people dont want artists to have opinions or at least political ones, sad really.
Ultra Posted 5 May 2009 Posted 5 May 2009 you're just the ash17 of your generation ( ) Harsh... But possibly true...
purpleronnie Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Never been a fan, way over rated. From a oasis fan, thats brilliant. Thanks for that.
Darkzzz_ Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Never been a fan, way over rated. Behave. That's all I am saying.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 May 2009 Author Posted 6 May 2009 I agree with Ash17! Dont forget that Bob Dylan didnt just sing, but wrote a great many top ten hits for various groups and artists. An all round genious, and yes, he does have a social concience, and is not popular with Politicians. That says it all for me.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 6 May 2009 Posted 6 May 2009 Not really my cup of tea, but I have to respect his staying power and acknowledge his influence on music generally

Infact the opposite. Would you say the same about Bruce Springsteen?

Never heard of Screwdriver, only those in my tool box I suppose I can understand the youngsterrs today enjoying their music scene, but todays music will be forgotten, dead, and buried in forty five years time, and not played daily as is sixties music today. However, the sixties music will just keep going on, and on ,and on, and on, and............................Q.E.D.

However, the sixties music will just keep going on, and on ,and on, and on, and............................Q.E.D. I am 42. My music tastes cover a wide range. I like everything but Country & Western and modern Jazz. I have albums recorded in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s to today. To say todays music wont be listened to in 45 years is utter bollox. I think if you dig around a bit you will find plenty of music you too would like from todays huge array of music. They still make music that doesn't get in the charts you know. Screwdriver were a punk band from the 80s used to enroll / front the what was then National Front. I just dont like Dylan. End of. My original post was more about the realisation that I agreed with ASH than not liking Dylan.
Cobbo Posted 7 May 2009 Posted 7 May 2009 He is, without doubt, one of the best song writers and poets of modern times. "It ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe It don't matter, anyhow An' it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe If you don't know by now When your rooster crows at the break of dawn Look out your window and I'll be gone You're the reason I'm trav'lin' on Don't think twice, it's all right It ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe That light I never knowed An' it ain't no use in turnin' on your light, babe I'm on the dark side of the road Still I wish there was somethin' you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay We never did too much talkin' anyway So don't think twice, it's all right It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal Like you never did before It ain't no use in callin' out my name, gal I can't hear you any more I'm a-thinkin' and a-wond'rin' all the way down the road I once loved a woman, a child I'm told I give her my heart but she wanted my soul But don't think twice, it's all right I'm walkin' down that long, lonesome road, babe Where I'm bound, I can't tell But goodbye's too good a word, gal So I'll just say fare thee well I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind You could have done better but I don't mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But don't think twice, it's all right" "May God bless and keep you always, May your wishes all come true, May you always do for others And let others do for you. May you build a ladder to the stars And climb on every rung, May you stay forever young, Forever young, forever young, May you stay forever young. May you grow up to be righteous, May you grow up to be true, May you always know the truth And see the lights surrounding you. May you always be courageous, Stand upright and be strong, May you stay forever young, Forever young, forever young, May you stay forever young. May your hands always be busy, May your feet always be swift, May you have a strong foundation When the winds of changes shift. May your heart always be joyful, May your song always be sung, May you stay forever young, Forever young, forever young, May you stay forever young."

However, the sixties music will just keep going on, and on ,and on, and on, and............................Q.E.D. this is a pretty specious argument, to be honest... there is an awful lot of music from the 60s that is not played, an awful lot - in 40/50 years time some music will be played from the modern era - the cream always rises to the top. you could apply the same logic to dylan and compare him to, say JS Bach - will they still be playing 'mr tambourine man' in 200 years comparing 60s music with modern music is like saying stanley matthews is better then ronaldo - you can't compare them. because of digitisation and computers and websites like myspace, there is no absolute need now to have a record label, at least not a major one that makes all bands sound like each other... people are listening to the music they want to now, rather than what is shoved under there noses. if you really wasnt to see how good modern music can be, don't listen to the radio - trawl places like myspace, last.fm or IACmusic - it's all out there, but people are doing it for themselves these days, so exposure is less, choice is greater. if you are dangerous, mr tiger - take your 'creme brulee' shades off and find the music thats define our lives today beach boys fan, 36, oslo.
Smudge Posted 9 May 2009 Posted 9 May 2009 Just ordered my tickets for his concert at Harbor Park, Norfolk. Opportunities to see and hear legends don't come too often in these here parts.

I've got such a choice of listening yet time after time I turn back to 60s stuff and have done much recently to fill some gaps in my collection.
