The best thing about this is, the council own the Ricoh, so any revenue that is raised will be ploughed back into the community and Cov Scum will get nowt from it.

Ha! lol

The thing is, even after renovation the Ricoh will have a bigger capacity than Welford Rd. That and the fact it is nearer to Birmingham is probably the reason why it would be chosen.

I just thought I would drop in to inform about the 2015 RWC bid, which includes our beautiful, magnificent, non-crisp stadium.

Let the amazing, hilarious replies begin. To include: "Maybe they'll fill the ground", "At least a decent team will play there".

By 2015 won't welford road be the biggest purpose-built, rugby-only stadium in europe owned and used by just one club?

I heard WR and the kingston stadium (wherever that is  ) will be the only two proper club rugby grounds involved in the bid. If so, then it hardly makes sense to use two stadia less than half a mile apart as the only two grounds in the midlands. st. andrews is not that big, and VP seems to me to be not very well-suited to hosting rugby matches, although it probably has done in the past...

so that just leaves cov. so essentially you're just the RFU's bargaining chip to the brummies, but then again you should be used to that role, shouldn't you...

p.s. why is it any better to have your stadium named after a japanese electronics company than a local crisp company? not that i'm a fan of sponsership in any case...
