Alexikokopops Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 BBC Sport Edit: The report's changed now. The article was in LCFC's section on the BBC Sport website and in the following paragraph it mentioned the Walkers Other football stadia to be used in pool matches also include St Mary's stadium in Southampton, Elland Road in Leeds, Coventry City's Ricoh Arena and Newcastle's St James' Park.
StanSP Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 BBC Sport Walkers only used for group games. What months will the World Cup take place in?
Sparky Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 According to Sky sports news The Walkers will not be used . Sky Sports does not mention that Welford Road will have matches which id find remarkable if Kingsholm were getting some .

Tommeh Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Remind me to leave the country for a few months when this is going down.
Hitesh Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I read both of these earlier and was wondering what the true story actually is. Would it make sense to use both Walkers AND Welford Road??
RowlattsFox Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I remember watching Tonga v Italy at Welford Road in The World Cup 99, was my first experience of Rugby and really enoyed it. Can't believe it was 10 years ago though.
Stevosevic Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I can't see Leicester mentioned on that report. Walkers Stadium that is...
Sparky Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Ive not seen any report yet that mentions the Walkers . If Leicester hosts matches then they will be at Welford Road

morris1234 Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 i dont want it ruining our pitch, we'll be in the prem by then?!! haha
Finnegan Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 As much as it'd be good to have the chance to go to some games - I really hope England don't get it (or anyone else up here.) It keeps bouncing between the Six Nations and the Tri Nations - it's never going to do much to encourage the global growth of rugby. I'd love to see an Argentine bid or an American bid - the Japanese put on a great football world cup, let them bid!

I'd love to see an Argentine bid or an American bid - the Japanese put on a great football world cup, let them bid! I totally agree with this. As much as FIFA deserve criticism at times, their decision to take the World Cup to nations such as USA, Japan & South Korea and South Africa is a great way of bringing the game to new markets. The Six Nations and Tri Nations are pretty much sold on rugby anyway, let's make it a global game by taking it to one of the countries you've mentioned. Also, how many sporting events can Britain host? We already have the 2012 Olympics, have a strong chance of hosting the 2018 World Cup and the 2015 RWC seems like overkill to me.
Finnegan Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Yeah. I mean as much as I like the fact that we get to play our home games in Cardiff at just about every World Cup outside of the Tri Nations, , it is a bit over the top. The English will hardly be that bothered if they don't get it - I think 2011 should have gone to Japan I was really cheering them on, I wish the IRB would open up and take rugby somewhere else. Japan really would be perfect, the locals would get so into it it's unreal.
Cov.me Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I just thought I would drop in to inform about the 2015 RWC bid, which includes our beautiful, magnificent, non-crisp stadium. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/rugby_unio...ish/8047350.stm Let the amazing, hilarious replies begin. To include: "Maybe they'll fill the ground", "At least a decent team will play there".

AmericanScott Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 it's like covscum's biggest achievement since moving to that disgusting stadium.

Koke Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 2nd biggest achievement ever for Cov. The biggest achievement is selling out Ricoh against Chelsea for the first time ever after it was opened 4 years ago.
