Carlos Tevez

Tevez would look a right donkey if he signed for Man City, the reason he wouldnt sign for Liverpool is because he has so much respect for United but yet he would still sign for their City rivals?

In the words of 50 Cent.. Money talks.

As Joorabchian said on Sky at the weekend, United view City as neighbours rather than rivals. Their main rivalry is with Liverpool.

Look likes he is off to Chelsea

He can't really go to City without looking like a hyprocrite, Kia may be willing to risk that but Tevez won't

We will see come Derby day.

We will indeed.

I think you'll find that Manyoo will greet a win over Liverpool with more euphoria than some of their recent trophies.

That report was dated the 22.6.09.

This comment appeared in The Sun just three days ago:

City have already held talks over a move for ex-Manchester United star Tevez.

And Hughes added: "I am a huge admirer of Carlos.

"Everyone is aware of his situation and we are interested, as we are in all top quality players.

"We will have to see what happens but these are very early days."

And this from goal.com just two days ago:

Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has revealed his frustration at the protracted transfers of Samuel Eto'o and Carlos Tevez, hinting that the Citizens could leave the negotiating table on both fronts.

Deals for the strike pair were expected to be completed this week but Hughes has revealed City will not be held to ransom by players or clubs.

"There’s always an element of frustration when you can’t conclude deals quickly," Hughes told The Daily Telegraph. "We will give every deal the patience we feel it deserves and if we get to a point where we feel things aren’t going to happen and we feel the process is stalling then that’s the time we walk away, and we’ve done that in the past."

However, the former Blackburn Rovers and Wales manager did reveal that he is willing to wait whilst Eto'o and Barcelona negotiate.

"We made an offer to Barcelona but now there seems to be a situation between the player and his club, and we’re not involved in that. We have to stand back and see whether it develops," he affirmed.

Hughes believes he already has the firepower to break into the top four after the signing of Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn Rovers, but he has admitted his squad would undoubtedly be stronger with the additions of Tevez and Eto'o.

"With the players we have now the challenge will be to get in the top four already," he said. "But everyone knows what fantastic players they are [and] the quality they will bring to the team. It will help bring the sort of quality we need to make sure all the players improve and work harder."

Goal thought a day earlier that the deal would be done Monday. The Mirror still do. The Sun stays shtum.

I think it's off.

Well today is the day, according to the in the knows on bluemoon (man city's fan forum), Tevez should be unveiled today.

Yesterday, Monday, has now become 'this week'...

Being linked with Man City appears to be a very handy way of upping a fee and/or personal terms with another club.

As well as making Man City look crap (which they are).

Somebody up there doesn't like them. Can't think who...

With out a doubt, United certainly see Liverpool as their biggest rivals for sure. The very few "real" United fans I know will back this up too, the hatred for Liverpool is something else. I had one friend who was telling me of the time when a small section of Liverpool fans let off some blow up planes at Old Trafford in a obvious reference to the Munich air disaster.

Oh it is true The owner ( Shiekh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan) has a personal Fortune of £33 Billion and a family wealth of £550 billion.

Very Rich.

Very Rich.

There are two problems with this statement:

(1) It is unclear who precisely holds the equity in Manchester City purportedly sold by Dr Thaksin Shinawatra.

(2) The 'family' wealth you referred to is the estimated wealth of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority. Despite suggestions contained in early reports that this was the financial vehicle used to purchase the equity and subsequently bankroll Manchester City it is almost certainly the case that neither of these assumptions is true.

The reporting of the 'acquisition' of Manchester City by Shiekh Mansour left a lot to be desired. Financially illiterate journalists were deliberately misled by the big rollers.

I understand that a similar thing happened when 'Arkan' took over your club. His bid was widely misreported as being £25 million when, to date, it is unlikely that your previous shareholders have received one tenth of that amount.

No the Family wealth is indeed just as it suggests. Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan is one of the sons of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and is a member of the Ruling Family of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. quoted from wikipedia, his family are royalty and oil rich so I have no reason to question those figures.

Money is no question to these owners. I only skimmed what you wrote so I may have missed something, but are you saying that Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyanis not the true owner of MCFC ?

In the totalitarian oil rich Gulf states 'national' assets are often conflated with the assets of the ruling families (indeed it is often difficult to pinpoint where public property ends and where private title begins). If for the sake of argument we accept that the net worth of the AD royal family was the half trillion GBP suggested it must be remembered that we are not talking monogamous nuclear famiily but polygamous extended family here. Effectively what we have is a clan running into several hundred people AT LEAST.

I do not know whether Mansour is the direct or indirect (and therefore part) owner of Manchester City. In my opinion, of these two options the latter is more likely to be the case.

But it is also possible that he has no interest in Manchester City at all - the circumstances surrounding the 'sale' transaction and an infamous precedent in your country both point to this.

Yeah I agree agree that the wealth is spread amongst a wide number of people within the family.

The question is could they call upon this £500bn to help finance massive transfers? Or help revolutionise Man city into the most successful club in the world? I don't really think that money will need to be called upon, considering his Personal fortune is £33bn and he has shown that he more than willing delve into that.

The real challege as we all know is attracting top players, money talks but no champions league football for a player could be very damaging for their career.

I agree the owner has no interest what-so-ever in the club, but hopefully over time that interest can be formed, through the success that his investment can bring.

Interesting topic though.

I use the term in the legal/commercial sense. I am stating the possibility/probability that Mansour does not own outright or even have a share in Manchester City

Oh I see, so who do you sugesst is the owner of MCFC? Or are you insinuating that Man city is in control of a consortium compiled of Mansours family?

You mean 'under the control'?

What exactly Mansour, the so called Abu Dhabi United Group (the supposed purchasers of Manchester City and often assumed wrongly to be a SWF) and other financial advisors are doing at Eastlands is a mystery to me.

Whatever, I am increasingly of the opinion that the club was never sold to them or any other Abu Dhabi entity.

Yes I meant 'Under control'. Sorry. The hierachy of Man City is something of a mystery but their commitment to making Man City a world wide name in football can not be questioned. But if it is not this Abu Dhabi group who are the owners then who else could afford these transfer costs?

Whatever the intentions of the Man City Board, thus far they have made a terrible hash of things.

There are a number of ways that current transfer activity could be funded - including whacking up the club overdraft. Be careful with player fees that are reported. These are often wide of the mark and the up front payments are often a fraction of the total.

My hunch (and it is nothing more than that at the moment) is that Dr Thaksin Shinawatra is still the legal owner of Man City.

Really ? Wasn't thaskin being linked with other clubs as a potential takeover candidate?

They already spent close to £50 million on transfers so far, could the overdraft really be 'run-up' that much, without raising a few eyebrows at the bank?

I don't know about TS being linked with other clubs.

You have to examine the reasons why he bought Man City. Principally it was a way of currying favour with the UK authorities to allow him to stay here after he was ousted as PM of Thailand and charges of corruption were filed against him.

His plan looked like it would backfire as the Thais pressed for his extradition from the UK and also for the sequestration of his assets (which included his Man City shares). For a number of reasons I believe that the 'sale' of these shares was a carefully choreographed charade.

ADUG appears to be a custody vehicle created specially for him. This private equity group does not appear on any industry listing of such funds nor is there any accessible information on the value of securities it holds.

Interesting to note (amongst several other things) that it took a very long time for a sale price to be revealed. That should read sale priceS as several 'realized values' have been published.

so what you're saying is that man city are actually owned by a corrupt politician (as if there is any other kind) who is stealing money from the richest nation in the world to make man city a big team (more than likely so he can sell them on to make enough money to hide from the Thai cops for years)
