Radovan's Caravan Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 so what you're saying is that man city are actually owned by a corrupt politician (as if there is any other kind) who is stealing money from the richest nation in the world to make man city a big team (more than likely so he can sell them on to make enough money to hide from the Thai cops for years) No. I'm saying that there is circumstantial evidence that points to TS having entered into some kind of arrangement with the AD royal family re. his Man City shares (and possibly other unconnected assets) that means he either still owns them or that title may ultimately revert to him. Who or what is providing the funds/guarantees for the club's acquisitions remains a mystery. I can only say the blindingly obvious: that a (long) line of credit has been made available to the club. Given the enormous financial clout that Man City are supposedly able to call on it is a little odd how all their big targets have eluded their grasp despite talk of record fees and contracts. I am surprised too to see that their coach has managed to remain in situ given the mediocrity of the team's finish last season. Man City currently may not be able to provide Champions League football to any prospective signings but their preferred management target Mourinho, would almost certainly remedy that in a season given the resources that would be at his disposal (in any case I think the CL argument is hogwash, particularly in a World Cup year). Crazy as it sounds it's almost as if external forces are colluding to prevent Man City breaking into the top four in your country. Are these parties deliberately unsettling top players at other clubs and then putting them off moving to Eastlands? If this carries on TS's shares won't be worth a bean (even if only a part of the club's debt ends up directly on its book). The only other explanation I can think of about why prospective singings are giving Man City the cold shoulder is that the club's pockets are not quite as deep as they would have us believe and the fees/packages on offer have been deliberately ramped up by the media (Oh! They wouildn't do a thing like that would they?). It is my belief that Man City are flush with short term patronage and that their position is unsustainable We could be watching a train wreck in slow motion...
Ultra Posted 9 July 2009 Posted 9 July 2009 Man City haven't been able to land their main targets because they're not in Europe next season. Simple as. But the money they've splashed out for Barry and Santa Cruz still makes them the biggest spenders in the Premier League to date this summer by some distance.
Radovan's Caravan Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Man City haven't been able to land their main targets because they're not in Europe next season. Simple as.But the money they've splashed out for Barry and Santa Cruz still makes them the biggest spenders in the Premier League to date this summer by some distance. Is it? I'm not so sure... If that were true why would Eto'os', Tevez's, and even Kaka's reps have even commenced negotiations when it was obvious that there wasn't going to be CL football at Eastlands next season? And why would Santa Cruz (who left a CL club to play for a non CL club), Barry and Lescott move to Eastlands if they had better chances of CL football either were they were or with other clubs that they had been linked with? Then there's this: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...cash-crazy.html Eto'os' concerns are reportedly money oriented - as are all footballers. Only naive, jejeune, gullible footie fans believe otherwise. Good as Man City's recent acquisitions are they are not Alpha + players and unless something earth shattering happens between now and the middle of August (principally Hughes being turfed out) there won't be CL football at Eastlands for the foreseeable future. I don't think I get the point that you are trying to make in stating that Man City are 'the biggest spenders in the Premier League to date...' Are you suggesting that this is some kind of 'proof' that all the (ludicrous) claims made about this club are true? Ultra, you are not stupid but you can be thoughtless. Reflect a little before posting again on this most intriguing topic

Radovan's Caravan Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 Radovan, although i dont agree with some of your posts they are always well thought out and have logic behind them. But having quoted the scum as a source for anything, i i cant take anything you say seriously now I knew that at least one poster would object to a link to your highest circulation daily (for the record, the story linked to appeared in several other of your daily papers today). You forget that The Sun belongs to the same stable as The Times/Sunday Times and that News International often syndicates its reports amongst its titles. In the UK there is a deep middle class prejudice against the popular press and newspaper proprieters are keen to exploit this intellectual snobbery (an attitude that arises chiefly out of an ignorance of the way in which the press works). A report is no more accurate because it appears in a so called 'quality' title rather than a 'red top'.
Ultra Posted 10 July 2009 Posted 10 July 2009 RC, for your information News International are currently under investigation for the techniques they use to find "stories" about the rich and famous. Bugging telephones is bad enough when carried out by governments. When it happens at the behest of Uncle Rupert it is completely abhorrent. The prejudice against the tabloid press, whose record of regular fabrications are well known, extends way beyond the middle class. Getting back on topic, have you wondered whether you may be the naive one when anticipating how footballers (or rather, their greedy, manipulative and parasitical agents) may behave? I suspect it's quite possible, even likely, that some of the stars may have entered into talks with Man City purely as a means of securing a better offer from their current clubs, or (as in Kaka's case) from the club they really want to join. The media might be content to inflame such speculation as a way of enticing the gullible to retain an interest in "the best league in the world". But the brighter sections of the football-following public have realised that the only sure means of believing events is after they have happened.

But the brighter sections of the football-following public have realised that the only sure means of believing events is after they have happened. Ultra, you're at it again - jumping in with both feet. Re: the hacks at The Screws you are conflating two issues: the ethics of their (and other titles) news gathering methods and the veracity of their reports. More often than not there is some truth in reports filed using unethical tactics. After all it is this kind of professional misconduct that has given rise to the clamour for 'privacy laws'. Given that your ruling class is a very tiny elite (but a MOST powerful one - don't we know it here in Voj!) the only inference that can be drawn from your assertion that the prejudice against the popular media extends way beyond the middle class is that this bias seeps downwards ie into the very classes that consume the popular media. Reduction ad absurdum as they used to say in Logic 101. And as for the sagacious only believing events after they have happened - many congratulations on rehashing a meaningless axiom. Meaningless, because in the mad, mad, mad world of football we don't know what has actually happened after it has supposedly happened. This thread is a perfect illustration of this 'truth'. Many posters thought that Tevez to City was a done deal, etched in stone. And even more are 'sure' that Man City are the richest club in the world (supposedly backed by an SWF) whose defiance of the most basic laws of economics in failing to sign the best players is simply down to a lack of Champions League football. Chocolate frog anyone?
AjcW Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Signs.... http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_5432260,00.html
Tomassi Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 the Tevez signing may well pave the way for more massive coups for Man City now...
Jam Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 the Tevez signing may well pave the way for more massive coups for Man City now... Starting with Adebayor.
lildave3 Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 Starting with Adebayor. That would instantly ruin my fondness of Man City.
Jam Posted 13 July 2009 Posted 13 July 2009 That would instantly ruin my fondness of Man City. Haha he is a bit of an idiot, his attitude stinks. But he does kind of fit what Man City needed up front, needed being the operative word. They already bought a target man with Roque Santa Cruz, adebayor is a similar player. Though in my opinion not really of the same class. Unless they're looking into buying Adebayor as cover for RSC , because let's face it his injury record is terrible. Definately interested to see who else they sign.
Fox92 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Hate to say it, but he (like Gareth Barry) has gone for the money. Why turn down deals at Manchester United to move to Manchester City? Cannot just be about him not playing many games
Tilley Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 Robinho, Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz, Craig Bellamy & maybe Emmanuel Adebayor. Tell me how the hell you're supposed to keep all them happy?! That's not forgetting all the fringe strikers like Benjani etc. They seriously need some defenders and a decent defensive midfielder if they're going to break into the top four.
Darkzzz_ Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 They are a poor man's Real Madrid (although very rich indeed, work that one out) Adebayor has nothing on Paolo Wanchope.
Jam Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 They seriously need some defenders and a decent defensive midfielder if they're going to break into the top four. Er...What?! They have one of the best defensive midfielders in the world, Nigel de Jong ! Regular starter in the Dutch international team, and a very impressive talent. They also have Vincent Kompany who can play there, who's also very good.

Hes a good player, but one of the best in the world I wouldn't say so.
Jam Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 He really isn't all that. Hes a good player, but one of the best in the world I wouldn't say so. The fact he gets into the very good Dutch squad, must be proof that he is a world class player. An exceptional young talent, he's only 24. Trust me they do not need to strengthen that area of the pitch. The only players I can think of who's better is de Rossi, but even he had been below-par last season. There is Marcos Senna, but he's 32. It's my opinion though. P.S to the guy who said they need more defensive midfielders: let's not forget Gareth Barry who can play in a defensive mid role aswell like he does for England, so how can they possibly need more defensive midfielders?

Having been to see Man City a fair few times last season, I can say first hand that he is a good player but not a world beater. He has potential to improve though. I think one good defender could be enough for them until January to be honest. Richards, Onouha, Bridge are all adequate at the back - not top four standard but the first two in particular are only going to get better in my opinion.
lildave3 Posted 14 July 2009 Posted 14 July 2009 They now have a hell of a team. A world class centre back leading them and they will be pushing for top four.
