FORMER Leicester City and Scotland defender Matt Elliott is to stand down from his role as assistant manager at Hednesford Town.

But Dean Edwards has moved quickly to line up a replacement with Macclesfield Town defender Richard Walker set to arrive at the club as player coach.

Edwards said: "Matt and I are really good friends and I am truly sorry to see him leave this club.

"But we have had a chat and because he has a lot of commitments we felt that it was probably for the best that he moved on.

"I wouldn't rule out working with Matt again in the future. He has been great and the players will miss his input a lot.

"He could still play in the league, at 28, but he wants to get into coaching.
