Flynny Posted 7 June 2009 Author Share Posted 7 June 2009 I would say the only other song on the album that sounds a bit like that is Eternity For One Night Only, but really those interludes on that album are only used in the same way that Flynny has, to build up to a "proper song" and there aren't many tracks that are similar to that.I also think they specialise a bit in outros. The endings to Out There On The Ice, So Haunted and Hearts On Fire are all brilliant. I genuinely think Hearts on Fire deserves national recognition or something I can't express exactly how much I think it's one of the best things ever. Agreed, there are some great songs on the CD. Most of them are instantly catchy as well.

Jay Posted 8 June 2009 Share Posted 8 June 2009 1. Aly Walk With Me - The Raveonettes - X/10 Yeah it's ok not sure about the need for the Sonic Youth esq distortion bits would probably be better with out them 2. That Summer at Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy - The Twilight Sad - X/10 It's ok doesn't jump out and grab me but it's listenable (3. The Loss Adjuster (excerpt 1)- Jarvis Cocker - X/10) Not really much to comment on really. 4. Wake Up - The Walkmen - X/10 I have tried to get into The Walkmen before as I believe they are a band I should like but I just can't get into them would much rather listen to some Afghan Whigs, Gutter Twins, The Twilight Singers etc the singer just reminds me of a bad version of Greg Dulli 5. 80's Life - The Good the Bad and the Queen - X/10 While not being a big DA fan I do appreciate he is a very talented musician who can turn his hand to a variety of music, this drags a bit though for me 6. My Moon My Man - Feist - X/10 Like this one 7. ****s Are Still Running the World - Jarvis Cocker - X/10 wasn't a fan of Pulp at all, and the bloke just annoys me (8. We Fight For Diamonds - Cut Copy - X/10) 9. Unforgettable Season - Cut Copy - X/10 I love the Cut Copy album while others of a similar style get mass press exposure these have passed a little unnoticed in the grand scale of things but their latest album was a great record 10. Xxzucuzx Me - Crystal Castles - X/10 I Paid with my own hard earned cash for this album and think it's a big pile of crap this song included 11. Lucid Dreams - Franz Ferdinand - X/10 Franz Ferdinand are ok nothing offensive little bit to clean for my liking although can listen to them. (12. Parachutes - Coldplay - X/10) Hate Coldplay.... 13. Flume - Bon Iver - X/10 I totally adore the Bon Iver album and Blood Bank it's just an amazing sound totally raw music with little or no production needed now extreme editing etc just music as it should be brilliant stuff 14. Transatlantique - Beirut - X/10 On a roll now good song!! 15. While You Wait for the Others - Grizzly Bear - X/10 Grizzly Bear are another band I think I should like but I'm still not sure if I do 16. Gagging Order - Radiohead - X/10 Radiohead enough said what more can you say everyone needs to own at least 2 Radiohead albums and if they don't well they don't deserve ears!! 17. The Good the Bad and the Queen - The Good the Bad and the Queen - X/10 Yeah it's ok I kinda like it but not enough to buy it which is always something I look for when listening to new music. Asha Posted 10 June 2009 Share Posted 10 June 2009 1. Aly Walk With Me - The Raveonettes - 7/10 Like this, easy to listen to and a nice start. 2. That Summer at Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy - The Twilight Sad - 5/10 Found this a bit dull, not my sort of thing. Not doing anything for me. (3. The Loss Adjuster (excerpt 1)- Jarvis Cocker - X/10) Wow, short. Bet I could still wank quicker though. 4. Wake Up - The Walkmen - 5/10 Again, not doing anything for me. 5. 80's Life - The Good the Bad and the Queen - 6/10 A little better, wouldn't listen to it again though, tbf. 6. My Moon My Man - Feist - 6/10 Only other Feist song I've heard is 1,2,3,4, and that just annoyed me. 'Tis a bit better than that, but still not a fan of the vocalist. 7. Cunts Are Still Running the World - Jarvis Cocker - 7/10 Slight improvement, like the lyrics and vocalist in this one. (8. We Fight For Diamonds - Cut Copy - X/10) It's too short really to have an opinion. 9. Unforgettable Season - Cut Copy - 7/10. Liked this a bit more, easy to listen to and good rhythm. 10. Xxzucuzx Me - Crystal Castles - 10/10 Absolutely brilliant. Loved it, just absolutely brilliant. . It's fooking crazy but <3 11. Lucid Dreams - Franz Ferdinand - 7/10 Too long for my liking. Reading Joe.'s review, I kept on until it got the middle section, and I'm glad I did...easily best part of the song. (12. Parachutes - Coldplay - X/10) Blimey, you love your very short interludes, don't you? Don't really do anything for me, though. 13. Flume - Bon Iver - 5/10 Vocals annoyed me, whole thing just seemd a bit dreary in a way. Not the worst thing I've ever heard though. 14. Transatlantique - Beirut - 7/10 This was quite nice, actually. Like the vocalist in this and definately worth another listen. 15. While You Wait for the Others - Grizzly Bear - 5/10 Never heard of the band...so may check out a couple of other songs before making a full judgement. As for the song, was decent enough but never grabbed me. 16. Gagging Order - Radiohead - 8/10 Liked this, but then I'm a fan of Radiohead anyway. 17. The Good the Bad and the Queen - The Good the Bad and the Queen - 7/10 Nice ending, liked it. Cheers Flynn.

Trav Le Bleu Posted 14 June 2009 Share Posted 14 June 2009 Once again - no scoring! 1. Aly Walk With Me - The Raveonettes - X/10 Loved it! I have a Raveonettes track on my PC somewhere (Love in a Trashcan). This served to ceonvince me I need more. 2. That Summer at Home I Had Become the Invisible Boy - The Twilight Sad - X/10 Heard this several times now and I still don't know - I remain to be convinced, but I'm veering away from it at the moment. (3. The Loss Adjuster (excerpt 1)- Jarvis Cocker - X/10) It's a bridge. 4. Wake Up - The Walkmen - X/10 I bought a Walkmen album, the one with The Rat on it, cos I quite liked that song. Didn't like the rest of the album, but this is better. Not sure I'd buy it though. 5. 80's Life - The Good the Bad and the Queen - X/10 Sometimes Mr Albarn can really, really, blow. This wouldn't be out of place on the head of a whale. 6. My Moon My Man - Feist - X/10 Reminds me of Goldfrapp... I mean REALLY reminds me. But quite nice for all that - tempted to look further into this band. 7. Cunts Are Still Running the World - Jarvis Cocker - X/10 You realised Jarvis? A nice little ditty that I'd LOVE to put on the stereo at work. (8. We Fight For Diamonds - Cut Copy - X/10) Shoegazing - not very good shoegazing. 9. Unforgettable Season - Cut Copy - X/10 And it didn't get any better. 10. Xxzucuzx Me - Crystal Castles - X/10 I quite liked it - then the "singing" started. (sigh) 11. Lucid Dreams - Franz Ferdinand - X/10 Franz Ferdinand is Franz Ferdinand - I bought their 1st album, but now I prefer Les. I did like the techno ending though! (12. Parachutes - Coldplay - X/10) I too remember when Coldplay were fresh, new and actually quite listenable. 13. Flume - Bon Iver - X/10 Beautiful - and by no means the best track from For Emma. More songwriters need to stuck away in a mountain shack for months at a time. 14. Transatlantique - Beirut - X/10 Jury's out on this one I'm afraid. 15. While You Wait for the Others - Grizzly Bear - X/10 Cold, I'm soooo cold - and not because it sends a shiver up my spine, quite the opposite. 16. Gagging Order - Radiohead - X/10 I have no need to be convinced of Mr Yorke's genius. I have all the albums (even Pablo Honey unfortunately) and a couple of singles. I don't have this however, so thanks! Finners is wrong though - not ALL people who like Radiohead are obsessive about them and chunter on ceaselessly and narrowmindedly about them. 17. The Good the Bad and the Queen - The Good the Bad and the Queen - X/10 I said earlier that Damon can really, really blow didn't I. On the flipside, he's often a genius. Loved this! Cheers Flynny, a few bands to follow up on there - so can't be bad!
