Religion should never be used as a reason for appointing or for not appointing people to a post in this country's government.

It does in my book, I can't trust the judgement of someone who bases a way of life around a figment of their imagination. It's the same as having a cabinet full of people who have invisible friends...although cheaper when it comes to their expenses claims! ;)
