Iran Elections

1. Yes i have seen the pictures. We see pictures like this every day from somewhere around the world. Unfortunately the killing of the young, women and defensless is usually done by western government bombs, artillery and guns. Or by regimes put into power or backed by 'our' leaders.

2. Well if Mousavi gets into power (which he won't) it will be a government controlled by foreign powers. If you know anything about him you would know that.

As for your points on Islam, how can you reform a Religion? You either believe or you don't. If you believe something is from your Creator how can you change it? Islam will never change. It is the only religion that has never changed. Yes, there have been some reformers and there may be more, but the original will always remain. It won't just remain, it will grow. It is growing at an enormous rate right now. Even redneck Texans are converting to Islam. Hundreds of thousands of white and black Americans every year convert. Hundreds of thousands of Mexicans also convert. Chinese, Jamaicans and the list goes on and on.

As much as people don't understand that religion (because they believe liars and images on tv of supposed Muslims) and want it to change or disappear, it never will.

I don't have a clue what this means "And the Arabic world is having troubles dealing with this. A lot. Iran is just the starting point." Which arabs are having trouble dealing with it? No protests in the Arab world are against Islam so this point has nothing to do with the situation in Iran.

Not true, we've had this discussion before, and we know who was in the right!!!

On the topic, it's fair to say that these protests are more then just a storm in a tea cup, it reminds me of the of the 'khalistan' movement in the punjab, although blood has been spilled, I must say the iranian goverment has shown some restrained relative to the Indian government!!

Propaganda is key to any uprising, it gives validity for either side to use whatever means necessary. Are the brits or US involved, I dunno, but this uprising is very significant, and gives the west opportunity to change iran in there favour!! This uprising has nothing to do with religion per say this is a clash between those that wish to reform, hence the rest of the islamic world see this as an iranian problem!!

I think like most people, we are just waiting to see what happens!!

In my eyes, it all comes back to a choice of how to proceed by Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He could call a re-election to prove that Ahamdinejad won, and show the protesters they are wrong, ending the unrest at a stroke and uniting the country. Or he could risk the stability of his country and regime, causing violence on the streets and loss of life by cracking down on the protesters. He has chosen the second option, despite the risks and the obvious best outcome from option one. Why?

Could it have something to do with 3 out of the 4 candidates who stood for election accusing the ruling regime of foul play and vote rigging?

That's a very disingenuous argument. Calling for a re-run would be an admission that the previous election was flawed.

As yet, no independent evidence has been produced to prove beyond reasonable doubt that this was the case.

Our understanding of events is not being helped by the fact our main source of information (the beeb) is a notorious Zionist mouthpiece - as proved by its coverage of the war in Gaza, and its refusal to air an appeal for aid). In recent days, it has also given airtime to the family of the late and discredited Shah.

Whether (as Iran claims) it is working at the behest of our government is not clear. However, it cannot claim that its coverage is trusted and impartial.

I don't know what Sky's take on this is, but I doubt whether Uncle Rupert would be too distressed either to see Iran tearing itself apart.

The Beeb has also, in the past, given airtime to the BNP, families of Palestinian suicide bombers, Iraqi insurgents and British based radical Islamists. Why shouldn't they give airtime to all sides involved in the trouble? We may or may not agree with what their beliefs, but they've a right to have their beliefs heard.

Ultra, you are ridiculous.

Unfortunately, Ultra can only see the world through a vision of imperialism. His world is divided into imperialists and those poor oppressed. Whoever is designated as poor and oppressed in his eyes can do whatever they like, as all actions can be justified in his mind. He will always be an apologist for them.

If Ultra had decided to search the internet to see how newspapers across the Arab world were reporting this story, he'd see there is roughly a 50-50 split between those supporting the Iranian position and those critical. This in itself is quite an achievement, for 50% of the Arabic newspapers, particularly those where democracy is but a dream, to be printing and criticising the Iranian regime over allegations of electoral fraud. That is unless I'm mistaken and in fact, 50% of the Arab press is controlled by the Zionist regime.

Even that Ad Al Bari Atwan must be a Zionist, as I distinctly heard him speaking on radio 4 about the press coverage and the split down the Middle East with those critical and those supporting the Ayatollahs.

The fact that 75% of the electoral candidates are crying foul, the fact that a large slice of the Iranian people are protesting despite the threat of arrest, violence and possibly death. All are irrelevant.

All I'll say is that I'm actually quite happy that one country thinks we're a big player in world affairs. For the past few months, we've been an absolute laughing stock as a second rate country, with a second rate government. The Americans, the Europeans, the Chinese, the Middle East all have been laughing at us. We're having to cut our public spending, our military is stretched beyond its means, we've nearly had our financial system collapse. Now, suddenly, we are enemy number one and the most evil nation, capable of mounting far flung operations to overthrow governments. It's a hell of a turnaround within the space of a two weeks. There was me thinking David Milliband was a d*ckless wonder. Now I know he's been plotting and we've got 100s of James Bonds wandering around tehran in burkhas.

Hossein Kaabi kicked out of Iran football team due to election protest

Ahwazi Arab Hossein Ka'abi was one of four footballers expelled from the Iranian national side today after staging an on-pitch protest against the presidential election results during a match last week against South Korea.

Ahwaz-born Ka'abi, who has played for English League One team Leicester City FC, joined Ali Karimi, Mehdi Mahdavikia and Vahid Hashemian in wearing green armbands in support of Mir-Hossein Mousavi, an opponent of President Ahmadinejad. Two other players also wore green armbands but have not been dismissed.

During the match held in Seoul, supporters of the Iranian team showed their support for the demonstrations in Iran by staging a protest outside the stadium. They unfurled a banner that read "Go To Hell Dictator," and chanted "Compatriots, we will be with you to the end with the same heart." During the match, protesters waved the banner, held up green paper signs reading "Where is my vote?" and waved Iran's national flags emblazed with the plea "Free Iran."

Ka'abi is one of Iran's most talented footballers, known for his aggressive style which has helped the Iranian side win at an international level. His passport has now been confiscated. There are concerns that he and the other footballers that participated in the protest will be imprisoned.

Ka'abi is believed to be a descendent of Sheikh Khaza'al, the powerful Arab sheikh of Mohammareh who ruled much of what is now the province of Khuzestan. Khaza'al was deposed by Reza Khan in 1925.

I sincerely hope the reprisals against him stop there, but can't help fearing that they won't. :(
