Guest Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 It has targeted young people first and foremost so far, probably because they are the ones that travel the most and are thus likely to get it first. This might be controversial, but I believe that younger people are being affected more because their immune systems are no longer strong enough to cope. There has been no major epidemic for years, and on top of that, we are a lot cleaner than a few decades ago. I'm not saying that we should all live in filth, but all these products that clean up to 99% of bacteria don't seem right to me. We need those bacteria, in small doses, to ensure that our immune systems are working, and in the process of obliterating bad bacteria, we are getting rid of the good ones that we need. There is an irony in modern society that we are killing bacteria to stay healthy, and then drinking bacteria laden drinks for our health!!
haraven Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 Even more than some of the comments in the child/kinder thread? Yes, in megalomania it beats anything I've read recently - but I haven't really delved into that other post if you are referring to the kinder egg thingie I couldn't bother catch up on that.

I never take pills and things for illnesses, unless I absolutely have to (immodium...). As a result, I probably only suffer from an illness/cold once a year, tops. People who pump their bodies full of Ibuprofen and Anadin etc seem to be forever suffering from something.
haraven Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 There is an irony in modern society that we are killing bacteria to stay healthy, and then drinking bacteria laden drinks for our health!! Good point, Lisa. It's not like when we grew up in the 70s, we ate real sand in the sandbox, now I am sure they eat carefully manufactured eco-sand thoroughly screened. Kids born in the 90s had helmets on while watching TV, and how they are to cope when they parents are gone is beyond me. H in a Geezer pose.

Honest.
Edmund Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.Well given that 700 people have died in a world that has a population of 6 billion I'd say it's a pretty shit method of depopulation. What a load of total, utter nonsense. If you believe that then you're more stupid than I thought (and I already thought you were pretty stupid).
Tabou Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 I never, ever ate sand!! I also grew up in the 80's. Honest. Has Calvin Harris got love for you?
Guest Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 Has Calvin Harris got love for you? I would like to think so. But I afraid he doesn't.
Tabou Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 I would like to think so. But I afraid he doesn't. He has for me . To your credit, both you and Sir Fynwynywnnywyn could pass for mid 20's.

I used to live in some absolute shit holes at uni, hopefully that will stand me in good stead. On a serious note, I think that's actually a pretty good point.

It's similar to that injection you have where they inject a small dose of the disease and after a few days you know if your immune or not. I think its TB not to sure. All I know is I avoided that huge injection which scars everyones arm as I was immune.

I think its TB not to sure. They do that with the normal seasonal flu vaccine. Inject a small amount which prompts your body to create the antibodies required to fight the disease. I had one a couple of years ago and felt really rough for the rest of the day, some people actually develop full blown flu, which is a little ironic.

Similar sort of thing happened in SpiderMan, if my memory serves me well.

Hahahaaaa I have been using the "a too sterile environment is bad for the kids immunity" excuse for not doing housework for years! I totally believe that we need to be exposed to some bacteria to fight them off. None of my kids are ill very often - we never have stomach bugs (touch wood) - Im not saying my house is a tip but I dont go for all this bleaching and cleaning 24/7 like some bloody Stepford Wife. I keep it clean and fairly tidy but not to the excesses some people do. One of my best friends, no matter what time of day or night I go round shes permanently got a cloth in her hand! Her kids are always bloody ill

haraven Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 Once you have SF are you immune to it? In theory yes, you're not 100% sure, but if you have been in contact with the virus earlier, then you might have a good chance of withstanding it later because your body has built up a working defense for it. That is a working theory why many "young people" get it this time around as well, since the elder population have been in contact with similar outbreaks of flu earlier.
Tilley Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 i better not get it again else ill be fuming fooking quarantine is shit, cant go out, same four walls CRAP
lavrentis Posted 23 July 2009 Posted 23 July 2009 Once you have SF are you immune to it? To that certain strand to it I would think, but as the flu virus changes and you was to get it again I would imagine that you wouldn't be immune to that but your body will fight it better due to building antibodies from the previous time.
