Jimmy Posted 1 July 2009 Posted 1 July 2009 Mercury Outbreaks of swine flu have been confirmed at three schools in Leicester. There are three confirmed cases at Moat Community College, Highfields, four at Lancaster School, West Knighton, and one at the City of Leicester College, Evington. About 15% of pupils at Lancaster and Moat are off school with suspected swine flu, thought those cases are not confirmed. Staff have also been affected. The students confirmed as having swine flu are at home and are responding well to treatment. The schools are staying open. Public health officials said it was no longer possible to contain the spread of the infection in the city. However, they are urging people not to panic. Dr Philip Monk, a public health consultant with the HPA, urged people to "be sensible". He said: "It is important people realise we now have swine flu in Leicester. People should not panic, but they should be sensible and take precautions, such as good hygiene. "There is evidence swine flu is spreading, particularly at Moat Community College and Lancaster School, where there are high absentee rates of pupils that have the flu. "This is more widespread than we thought." He said although there were cases in the rest of Leicestershire, there was no sustained spread . Dr Monk stressed that the health advice remained that people who had symptoms, which include a temperature of more than 38 degrees centigrade for more than a day, should ring their GP or NHS Direct on 084... for advice and treatment.
BoneDog Posted 1 July 2009 Posted 1 July 2009 " Public health officials said it was no longer possible to contain the spread of the infection in the city. Plus face, neck and ears the same times. It is a help.
Guest Posted 1 July 2009 Posted 1 July 2009 Does this mean I shouldn't bother coming home then? Woohoo!!
Tommy G Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 It will be a lot worse in the winter. Isn't Swine Flu milder than ordinary flu anyway?
Jimmy Posted 2 July 2009 Author Posted 2 July 2009 It will be a lot worse in the winter. Isn't Swine Flu milder than ordinary flu anyway? no its stronger, which is why tammyflu doesn't help all that much
Father Ted Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 Got a letter from my school today and they think that there is swine flu going around that is unconfirmed within the school.
Asha Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 City of Leicester? Ahhhhh....that's why I've been sent home for the summer.
Guest Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 It will be a lot worse in the winter. Isn't Swine Flu milder than ordinary flu anyway? It's only a problem with those people who are already at risk with ordinary flu, like the very young, the very old, and those with diseases like asthma etc. The danger is that the virus will mutate and become resistant to the flu drugs, and will produce more severe symptoms in the fit and healthy. Even though I am in an at risk group, I want this disease as early as possible, as it looks like we'll all get it at some stage. I certainly don't want to be missing uni or football later on in the year because of it.
Benji Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 the only symptom they've given to look out for is a high temperature... its nearly 29 fking degrees outside
Monk Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 They reckon they'll have a vaccine by August... and here's me on immune suppressant drugs for my kidney transplant. Guess who is first in line
Daggers Posted 2 July 2009 Posted 2 July 2009 I want this disease as early as possible, as it looks like we'll all get it at some stage. Pop round. This house is pig-flu central today.

Webbo Posted 6 July 2009 Posted 6 July 2009 My daughter's just brought home a letter from her school saying that there are several staff and pupils gone down with swine flu. None of mine had better get it before we go London this weekend. <_<
Bellend Sebastian Posted 7 July 2009 Posted 7 July 2009 We have our first suspected case in the office. I say suspected because they don't want people to go their doctors with it now, it's prevalent enough for them not to care who's got it
MikeyT Posted 8 July 2009 Posted 8 July 2009 Reported cases now in Syston at both Wreake Valley College and St. Peter And St. Paul's. Couple of kids that are in my nieces year (not class) have got it as well as one of the mums.
