One of the great unfulfilled talents of English football.

We only had him on loan for less than a season (85-86), but his arrival probably made the difference between survival and relegation.

I still remember his debut against Manyoo (then miles clear at the top of the league) when he absolutely tore them to shreds as we beat them 3-0.

He remains one of the most skilful players to have worn a City shirt.

What a lovely article... I can remember him and Regis playing at West Brom so its bought back some good memories. A sad end to his life for sure.

I remember my Dad toally exhasperated trying to make me understand how good Cunningham could be when we signed him, and saying that we'd be sure to stay up if he got playing well. Given the following season's demise and the years of Pleat-inspired crap to follow you just wonder what if we'd managed to have kept him for a couple more years....Can't believe it's already 20 years gone by

Whilst their fans tore the east stand to shreds and tried to chop Morgan's head off with a flying seat.

He was simply quality in his short time here.

Old enough to remember him playing though, thusly making us feel old but thanks for your kind words Kareem :D

Haha, always here for that Katy. ;)

The day I feel old is when a footballer could potentially be my grandson. That's when I know I've lived a pretty long life.

Great article.

He's the only player I can think of who whipped in corners with the outside of his foot, with pace and loads of swerve.

Even DJ might have scored from one of those...

I wonder what his skills would be worth in todays market?

Superb player.

Dunno, but you could bet your life he wouldn't be playing for us!
