To be fair he probably just lost contact with old mates same as most people do when they get older/move house/change jobs. They probably werent real close mates anyway and are jealous of his wealth and success and started telling anyone who would listen how hes "dropped them". Teenage prospect Fabian Delph was heading for Villa Park in an £8million deal after Martin O'Neill received assurances that other clubs would not be allowed to hijack his second major signing of the summer.

Aston Villa manager O'Neill was bracing himself for last-minute counter bids from Tottenham, Everton and Manchester City after it emerged a down-payment of £4m might be enough to secure Leeds' England Under-19 midfielder.

His fears of an auction appeared well-founded, until Leeds set his mind at rest with a statement declaring they would not be listening to other offers.

Tottenham were still monitoring Delph's pre-season progress at the weekend, while Everton manager David Moyes was eager to complete another raid on the lower divisions and City were ready to pay £10m for one of the country's brightest talents.

In a novel stance that went against the usual practice of seeking the best possible price, Coca-Cola League One side Leeds issued a statement that said: 'We can confirm a fee has been agreed with Aston Villa for Fabian Delph and wish to place on record our appreciation for the honourable manner in which they have conducted their interest in the player.

'Leeds United have resisted approaches from other Premier League clubs since agreeing terms with Villa. Having given Villa our commitment to transfer the player (subject to a medical), we had no intention of going back on that.'

Bit overpriced at the minute but if MoN can take him and make him into a Premiership player than thats great, good business for Leeds as well to be honest because he didn't seem to do much against us in League 1.

I wouldnt take his game at the WS as any kind of judgement. The lads a class act theres no question of that. Ive no doubt MON can turn him into the finished article hes so young still too.

Is this from football rumours because sorry I just can't see it happening. He is knocking on the door of the Arsenal first team, there is even talk of him making an appearance for England soon, as Capello is a great admirer.

If he was going to go out on loan im sure a Premier league club or a Championship club would take him without a seconds thought and walk straight into the starting 11. No offence I just think he is a class above league 1.
