Pearson Primed

City boss Nigel Pearson is confident that his squad are in the best possible shape for Saturday's opener against Swansea City at the Walkers Stadium.

Recent injury doubts Matty Fryatt and Matt Oakley have trained all week and will be available with new loan signing Martyn Waghorn added to the mix.

Pearson said: "I am pleased with the fact that we have got the players as fit as possible and that the majority of them have had the opportunity to play so I am relatively satisfied with the way we have come through pre-season unscathed in terms of injuries and we are looking forward to it.

"The players are now looking forward to the games that matter so in terms of an exercise, getting the fitness right and working on things we wanted to work on as a team it has been good."

After last season's success, it is no surprise spirits are high and Pearson added: "There is always an enthusiasm around the place. It is nice to start at home but I suppose wherever the game is the pressure would be on straight away and we look forward to that.

"Our visitors Swansea, when they got promoted, had a great first season and teams like ourselves can look at their progress as a club and think that that is certainly achievable and so I have the utmost respect for what they achieved last season. But of course now they have to regroup, they have a new manager and I am sure he will have his influence on the team so I am sure it will be an interesting game.

"Everyone wants to get off to a positive start and I am sure they will be no different to us in that respect. They will be seeing it as an opportunity because we are a freshly promoted side but I think it is a game we can all look forward to as being a good opener.

"Our mentality has to be the same. We can't go into it thinking because it is a league higher we have got to play differently. We have to have that positive attitude, positive outlook and that should be how I expect us to go into it."

edit: just looked at the rumours thread.

dont really know what Pearson is up to here!! unless Waghorn is very good... we've got some good young players at our own club - Ash Chambers, Billy Kee for example

Kee isn't in the same level, and looked to need more practice at higher ones to which he is used to before joining our first team.

Chambers, I suspect, will never make it at Championship level.

And what Pearson is up to is trying to patch together a squad that money could have fixed but wasn't available during the summer.

Good.

Glad to see that 'the squad is in the best possible shape' and hopefully we can take the game to Swansea on Saturday.

And, Waghorn signed so it makes a decent backup to our attacking options. He also adds pace if I remember correctly, he is very fast, something that we perhaps need.

Give our young guns a chance! Chambers has never been given the chance , so surely you cant judge him! Kee and Chambo will get loaned out, then forgot about just like Louis Dodds few seasons back!

I reckon Kee will have a good season with Accrington. Scored a hat trick in his first appearance in pre season. The problem is the pressure on Pearson from Mandy is strong and he is not in a position to risk younger players who have not played at this level. We all know what happened last time round in the championship.

Chambers knees are dodgy, tbh i think he'll end up like Weso. Injury after Injury.

As for Kee i don't think he's ready yet as mentioned before, we'll see how many he bangs in while on loan. If he scores a few then he's good enough, if he don't then well, he's not.

Agreed about Chambers about his injury's and then I think he will most probably get sold.

He looked good when he first ever played did Chambers but his injuries are severe and I think he will also end up with injuries after injuries and it's not nice because there have been some great and talented players over the years done by injury; Redknapp, Bridges even Weselowski just to name a few.

More excited about Kee than Chambers to be honest. Kee has showed us in pre-season he can score at that level and obviousley moving up a few leagues he can also score at Accrington. Nice to see how his loan goes though.

What he meant to say was "Swansea have lost their boss and best player so they'll be shít and most likely get relegated this season so if we cant beat these sheep shaggers we may as well give up."

Erm, wasn't the problem more with the fact we signed a load of rubbish journeymen who didn't give a toss (hello, Bruno N'Gotty)? I can't recall us throwing in youngsters who lost us games.

Sorry mate but you've mis read my post. I was saying that Pearson wont risk youngsters as his job is on the line. I referred back to the previous season in the championship in terms of the merry go round we had with managers and what fate lies for Pearson if he does not perform.
